The most frustrating thing is that I don’t actually care about the people around me or their opinions. But my body involuntarily starts shaking and sweating anyway even when I know I’m not nervous. It’s like I’m fighting against myself and it’s exhausting.

I have that too. I think it's just automatic reaction, reflex. Sometimes it helps me to start thinking about it every time it happens and analyse it. What it feels like, what is triggering it, breath through it. For me it feels exactly like sharp pain inside my head. I heard that in brain, center for anxiety and pain are linked (or are the same i don't remember exactly). Another feeling is submission. I want to disappear. It's just my defense mechanism misfiring. When you can name that sensations, you can consiously do something with them. Is it at least somewhat helpful?

Knowing that alot of people go thru this and are also struggling with social anxiety makes me feel less alone

I developed social anxiety at around 13 yrs old and I went to therapy for it which helped, but back then it wasn’t as bad. Just talking on the phone, interacting with new kids and the lunch room. I made a lot of progress and was really growing into myself, as I got to freshman year I became super extroverted and had a huge friend group which I’d never had in my life. Then Covid happened that same year. And in those months of isolation my fear returned but worse. I still struggle and now I’m 17. So the fear is affecting my life more than ever, I want to get a job, make new friends, go out by myself and I’m going to college next year. I’m really happy for these videos. It’s been really tough for all of us who struggle with this and quarantine on top of it

Hey everyone, I’m currently trying to find out how one could make the lives of socially anxious people a lot easier ;) Which is why I have two very simple questions: 1. As someone struggling with social anxiety, what are the 2 biggest issues you’re dealing with? 2. Regarding your social anxiety, what would you wish for more than anything else? Thanks so much in advance - looking forward to reading your answers!
@TornaDoza

1. There is a whole part of life that I'm blocked off because of my anxiety. Friends, dating, social hobbies. And it's getting progressively worse, with not much hope for a remission. 2. I'd wish to be as obnoxious and non-caring as some people, say whatever and do whatever, but that's not going to happen anytime soon. Holding a conversation without starting to sweat. Being able to meet and date with people. Easy things that others take for granted, but people with SAD are deprived of.
@marlinepinto3689

1. I'm struggling with: talking to people whom I don't meet much including my family members. I worry about my appearance. I'm very much self conscious when around a group of people with whom I'm not close with. I feel like someone is watching me. 2. I want to go out and enjoy life like others and make good friends and be happy without the fear of being judged.

a problem that often happens to me is that once I feel anxious after a social interaction that i perceived as going badly, when i try to speak to the people involved, sort of to see how they perceive me, they do indeed seem to perceive me the way I thought they did. If they wouldn't, I'de drop that negative perception. So basically, if people would show extra love and acceptance, not just the average ammount. I know I try to.

I don't know if this is still helpful since this comment is from 1 year ago, but could be helpful to me so I'll just tell my experience anyway. I'm a 25 y.o. male from Italy (sorry for my bad English). 1. The first one is that I struggle to make friends and to find a girlfriend (never had one before). The second one is that I struggle to find a job and to keep up with my studies at university since talking in front of other people and getting along with colleagues/classmates is obviously crucial. 2. I'd like to have a lot of friends that care about me. I'd like to have a girlfriend while I'm still young, since I feel that I'm missing out on so many experiences that most of my peers are having. I'd like to feel normal and to be able to relate to others without shaking, sweating, blushing, be flooded by intrusive thoughts ... This is absolutely debilitating, so I'm watching this video and I'm taking medication to get my life back.

im 17 and i have social anxiety. it’s the only thing holding me back, which is just silly because technically i’m holding myself back. today i had my first ever therapy appointment for it but i just feel so guilty because my mom is partially paying, partially covered by insurance. i’m so money conscious that i hate when my parents pay for things. it makes me feel like a burden. my greatest dream is to one day be a lawyer, not one that appears in court, but a government lawyer who works 9-5 reading, researching, and drafting documents. i have strong written communication skills but probably the weakest verbal communication skills on earth. just today while i was at therapy i could barely talk to the therapist because of how much my voice trembled involuntarily. i practice positive self talk all the time, i know that nothing socially can hurt me physically but my body still reacts terribly. hopefully therapy can help me. i’m not entirely socially inept, i have a friend group, though my parents certainly think i am. i feel silly telling anyone irl my dream. if you happen to see this years in the future, don’t be afraid to reply and ask me how i am.

There's a cbt app called "loop" where you talk anonymously with people that have social anxiety. No one can see you or know who you are . It's really helpful for talk therapy and $14 weekly

I wanted to bring this into your notice that sometimes even doctors diagnose wrong. You might be on medication for years but no good. That might be because diagnosis was wrong.
