Hi Tara Bianca! Thanks so much for this video and other useful resources that you're sharing on here, so so grateful for it all! For a long time I've been putting myself through a lot of anxiety and flight or fight responses due to an unresolved childhood trauma and as a result I have some shifts in my spine (mild scoliosis - resulting in 4 slipped discs). I've tried nearly everything under the sun as well as your lovely self-massages and breathing techniques but everything feels like a short term fix and I still have so much tension in my upper back and TOS symptoms. Treatments that have worked for a longer period are acupuncture and osteopath treatments. However, since getting a physical diagnosis of what is going on exactly with my spine, I discontinued going to the osteopath as I started doing physiotherapy, but I've been doing physio for over 3 months now and the strengthening exercises have only improved my lower back pain and discomfort and sciatica. I don't know if I'm currently just not finding peace with it and I'm not able to relax because I just desperately want to get better and if I'm possibly over doing my stretches, strengthening exercises and nerve gliding... I feel like I'm stuck in this loop. I would immensely appreciate any advice you can give me. Thank you in advance!! Rimante

@@rimantenaujokaityte4395 Hi, Rimante! I am so sorry to hear about your suffering. I know how frustrating it is to be in pain for so long and not seem to be able to find the answers. From an outside perspective, it sounds like you ARE making progress! Just maybe not as quickly as you would like. But it does sound like your body is healing and finding alignment. It sounds like the physiotherapy has done wonders for your low back. Maybe it's time to have them focus more on your upper thorax and TOS symptoms. I'm sure they can help you to get results there as well, no? Where are you located? I know many marvelous practitioners, but to me, it doesn't sound like you need MORE things. It sounds like you might need to be a bit more patient with your body as it finds equilibrium again. You're doing an amazing job so far! It took your body decades to create these compensation patterns. Maybe give it a bit more time to continue to find balance. Thank you for watching my videos and supporting my channel and for all your kind words. If you'd ever like to speak more privately, you can always reach out to me by email: tara@belighttt.com Have a beautiful night!

@@BELightTT Hi Tara! Thanks so much for you prompt reply, I really appreciate it! It really puts my mind at ease, having someone like yourself to say that I am doing all the right things and now I just need be patient with my body whilst it finds equilibrium again. I have already started focusing on my upper back but maybe I need to stop expecting instant results and accept and embrace the journey. I am actually based in London (Essex region). Thank you again and I will be sure to contact you if at any point I feel lost again. All my best, Rimante :)

@@rimantenaujokaityte4395 I'm so glad that put your mind at ease, Rimante. Yes, being a little more patient and embracing the journey is the only way. It allows you to drop the expectations, lessens your resistance, and opens you up to new possibilities. Being curious and compassionate with your body is always a better remedy than punishing yourself by demanding instant results. Appreciate the progress you've already made and keep going. I am sure you will find relief in your neck and back as well. Have a beautiful day!💖

I definitely needed this to relax my stiff neck. I couldn’t tell if I located and isolated my scalenes as clearly as you did. Kept massaging the region gently though. Felt good.. Sniffed sharp to feel the effect in my neck.. not sure if I pressed right or sniffed right. Very good info about the anatomy and helpful tips. Appreciate your coaching. Thank you Tara 👼 Bala

@R thanks for trying it out and commenting. Bala, for sure, the scalenes are tricky muscles to feel, especially if this is the first time you are working in this area. Even for professional therapists, we must touch lots and lots of bodies, before we really understand what we are touching. However, sometimes with self-massage, I invite you guys to just go for it! It is your own body, so often you are better able to feel into these nuances. And like you said, even if you didn't get it "exactly right", you're still doing something good for your neck, your nervous system and you body just by addressing this area. Well done! I admire your courage for trying new things that maybe feel a bit awkward. This is the best way to explore and experiment. Great job!🙌 Thank you for the comment, my friend.

@newts1964 Thanks for watching and for the great question. Daily, for sure. It should be gentle enough. UNLESS you are getting sore or experiencing any other negative effect. In that case, wait until the soreness wears off before trying again. I hope this helps. I appreciate you stopping by the channel. Have a great day!

Is it possible to work on this while waiting for rib resection for chronic TOS (abnormal arterial compression) and neurogenic pain, loss function arm, violent recumbency migraines every night many years. I’d like to try. Pls advise if while with active TOS Nerve blocks, IMS needling & Botox injections into the scalene and pec.., could I still make some progress? Thanks

@Enlighten9096 Wow, I'm sorry to hear about the difficulty you are having. A few things...it sounds like you are doing a LOT to treat and manage your symptoms, including several therapeutic interventions. I will say that there is often a "clinical limit" with these things. Meaning, sometimes too much is simply too much. Your body might just need time to rest and recover, without giving it more interventions to manage. I'm also surprised to hear that none of the things your are doing are giving you enough relief to maybe stop looking for solutions for now. If you really feel compelled to try this, I certainly cannot stop you, as you know what your body needs better than I do. But please go in with caution. It sounds like you must be working with a physician/surgeon and also a PT? I would strongly encourage you to get clearance from them before doing any massage/manual therapy. They have a much clearer picture of what is going on with you and can better advice you in order to keep you safe and progressing appropriately. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Wishing you a complete and successful recovery from your surgery. I hope that you will finally be out of pain and discomfort.

Thank you for your time and comments. I tried the release techniques in your video on the affected side & non affected side 2nd. I made progress with some release of pain and reduction with the chronic choking sensation. I am very encouraged by this. PT & surgeon lmk that this is a complicated case. I appreciate your videos!!

I find it difficult to find and know if I’m in the right spot. I’ve had TOS for many years and often woke with numbness in my hand. It began taking longer for the feeling to come back and then all of a sudden one morning the numbness was replaced by being unable to close my hand all the way. Very stiff and the ring finger pops when bending if that makes sense. I don’t have health insurance and wonder if you could tell me what kind of specialist I should see. I can’t afford to waste resources. Thanks so much.

Hi @KT I am so sorry to hear that. It sounds incredibly frustrating. I know how debilitating it can be to live with a health affliction for such an extensive period of time. In terms of TOS, it really is a soft tissue issue. So an excellent manual therapist should be able to really assist you with this. I don't know where you live, but I would look for an osteopath who really specializes in manual treatment, a massage therapist who is trained in rehabilitation techniques (PLEASE do NOT go to a generic massage therapist), or a physical therapist who again specializes in manual treatment (not just heat, ice, and electric stim). Also, daily posture and sleeping position play such a big role. On your own, I would suggest just trying to clean up your posture and ergonomics as much as possible (which I'm quite sure you've already done, but it bears repeating). I hope this helps to give you a little direction. Please let me know what you find. Have a great weekend.

@@BELightTT Thank you so much. This is very helpful! I try to do shoulder opening exercises as much as possible. Sleeping is the hard part because it doesn’t seem to matter which position I’m in. It seems to just be so many hours lying prone that does it. I am a deep sleeper and don’t move much. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond and will do some searching. I’m in Houston, there should be plenty of qualified practitioners. Stay awesome ✌🏼🌻
