Good tip on use of the cane. An addendum: Here is SoCal we have high cement curbs in places because when it rains, it pours. I walk frequently with two arthritic knees, one severely so, one moderately that way. A sturdy wooden hiking stick is my assist for stability and another contact point. Not essential for me, but does help. I go to a clinic sometimes that has 14 cement stairs. I use the handrail, but I find going down with bifocals and then the sense of balance can be a thrilling experience I don't need. (Yes, there is an elevator ... somewhere.) These are good tips, as are the leg exercises noted earlier. Just walked to and from a "zumba" class at a senior center with hiking pole along. Feel great.

Great suggestions! Thank you! You need a new photo on your webpage: Bob, Brad and Mike. Mike isn’t even on the first page of your site! I know he’s a PTA, not a PT, but his role in the videos is one of equal importance. It is very odd and unkind not to have him featured as an equal partner on your website, rather than just “a member of the team”.

I carefully walk down stairs sideways or backwards and all knee pain goes away. Don’t know why but I’m guessing it has to do with my kneecap pain.

My mom goes down the stairs backwards too, she says it’s basically pain free. Her orthopedic appointment is three months away unfortunately, the closest they could book her.

In my experience my knees don’t like descending stairs. I found that going down backwards eliminates the pain. Not always convenient to do…

Hopefully this helps give you more options as going down backwards is dangerous!

Only when bending the knee going up or down for me. If I step up with the good leg, and put the bad leg down the stairs first... NO PAIN!! Edit... and that is what you show when I watch the video!!
