The "Angel of the Lord" could have easily been some kind of virus that killed all those soldiers, just like the Passover in Egypt. Sennacherib wouldn't mention the lost of his forces for fear of other tributaries learning about his military might being weakened and possibly revolting.

Sennacherib does attack Jerusalem, he does not take the city. Most probable is that a plague decimated his army, which was something that did happen in the acient world. Sennacherib’s account, nor the bible mention the tunnel. It’s in Sennacherib’s best interest to say Hezekiah was powerful, otherwise the record would state Sennacherib was bested by a weakling. It’s also in Sennacherib’s best interest to not mention his army suffering losses from disease or a supernatural account. Otherwise, it would be on his record that the God of Jacob is more powerful than Sennacherib’s god or that God is against Sennacherib / for Hezekiah. Why is a tunnel no one mentioned until thousands of years later more credible than the biblical story, which is not contradicted by the other sources? As you mentioned, sieges were not a starvation tactic at that point, but where a preparation to assault. Why would Sennacherib not assault Jerusalem, turn around and leave, especially when Hezekiah took part in a rebellion?

Another wonderful video by my favorite KZitem historian, great work. Pertaining to the video, according to Lester L. What about Lachish? There is a siege ramp there and both the Bible and the Prism agree that Sennacherib absolutely devastated that city immediately before sending his Rabshekah to treat with Hezekiah. It seems entirely plausible and far more likely that Sennacherib knew Lachish would be a far easier target than Jerusalem, so destroyed it in a show of force, to convince Hezekiah to end his rebellion and resume paying his tribute. This lines up perfectly with both accounts, and doesn’t require any magic to support it.

I think what really happened was that Senachrib's army suffered disease like plague or smallpox which was common in those times especially if large number of people congregate in a single place for long time like an army in a siege and started suffering huge casualties due to which he considered it best to withdraw. The disease was the real act of God via the angel.

Your bird in a cage interpretation couldn’t be more wrong. To understand it you need to look at the context. For one kings often flee when they know their country is going to be overtaken, like Marduk Apla Iddina did during the raid of Sargon and Sennacherib. Second, “bird in a cage” does not in any way mean siege was thwarted, in one of the el amarna letters a vassal king Rib-Hadda of Byblos wrote to the Pharaoh lamenting that he was trapped in the city “like a bird in a cage.” Third, the aim of siege was probably getting tribute and instilling fear so they never stop paying it again rather than destroying the city, so once the king pays off and submits no reason to destroy city since that’s loss of a source of income.

There's a difference between the attitude of pagan nations regarding the registration of historic events, and the attitude of biblical writers... the biblical writers tend to be more authentic, they have no problem writing their own flaws... for example what happened with King David... extremely embarrassed. Biblical prophets also had their flaws, but when they used the personal name of their God in their writings (יהוה Jehovah), they knew that no mistakes were permitted. So, if Jeremiah said that 185.000 assyrian Soldiers died, that's probably true... maybe by disease. By the way, the tetragram was never used by Muhammad on the Quran...

Seenachrib attacked Jerusalem with 700 golden eagles, which were trained by him. On the day of attack on Jerusalem,he used 700 of them, yet he had other 6300 golden trained eagles. All we know that people at that time were a lot shorter and smaller, they tied them themselfs around eagles legs, and they could fly with them. The eagles at that time were very strong, wingspan was around 3 meters(9 feet),and they could carry a sheep that is very fat and drag it miles away,so it's pretty fanscinating that this happened. 😀

@@thestudyofchristianity yes, you do discuss that it occurred in your previous video, but in this video, that context is completely removed. You have to cherry pick your details from both accounts to get them to line up, and you have to leave out quite a bit of context. Which seems more likely? Which version lines up with the evidence better? That a deity sent an angel to kill over 150,000 men in a single night? Or that a foreign king destroyed the second most populous city inJudah and, in response, Hezekiah ended his rebellion and resumed payment of his tribute?

Judging from your comments section, that would have cleared up a lot of confusion about WHY Sennacherib tore a destructive path through Judah and then, without laying siege to Jerusalem, packed up and left. It would also explain why Hezekiah resumed payment of tribute to Sennacherib, which doesn’t make sense if he fled in terror due to God’s angel wiping out 150,000 men in one night.

The two story here is contradictory to the other. The Assyrian insulted the king of Jerusalem, Hezekiah and the way in which it was done more over that it became a matter referring to the God of isreal , in which sehnacherib said who is going to deliver them from him. With such adamacy I am sure he would have destroy and made to nothing the city of Jerusalem if he could at the rate he was going. How it is obvious that the king of the Assyrian told a lie. In the bible it mention that the Assyrian had over 100000+ in fact the amount the angle killed was 150000. 150000 is enough to kill and slaughter and to destroy the city all together. The king of Assyrian lied.

I would sooner that you give me the evidence and let me form my own conclusions. Any time that a researcher eliminates one possibility he has already prejudges himself and and most likely will not reach the truth.Where the pseudo accuses the creationist of drawing a calculation first then finds evidence to support it, but he does exactly the same thing. Has this happened before, yes, at Jericho. One of the original investigators came to the conclusion that the city fell some 50 years before the Hebrews appeared. However, when real scholars compared the findings on site with the Biblical account they matched perfectly but "serious science" can not under any condition admit that the is true. The only obvious true statement that can be mad from this evidence is this: The Assyrians attacked these cites but left Jerusalem and turned back north after failing to take the city and being threatened by Egypt. All the sources agree on this. Weather they were attacked by an angel there is no direct evidence. This means that we don't have it but why. Were there other accounts that were destroyed over time? Have we not looked in the right places? The Islamic records report that when Egypt was taken there ware houses that were full of documents that they destroyed, is this why we don't have an account of Assyrian leaders came out of their tents and found bodies all over the place? Sennacherib would not admit to it, that would ruin his presage.Did the defeat contribute to his death?
