Thanks for the comment, Mr. Slaughter. I will keep it in mind and try to keep it a bit more natural. I have been a little zealous in editing out dead space and breaths. I think the original launch price ($250) on the Game One was too much and they were charging for the brand. It's a pretty nice build at it's current price, but some metal would be nice.

On PC I am rocking the sound blaster G6 at the moment (mainly so I could use with console as well) and I think the audio is much improved over the Auroras onboard. MIc quality suffers a bit with the G6, but it’s definitely worth the audio improvement. If your pc only I would look at the new AE7 internal card. I haven’t tried it yet, but it looks great.

Great review! I really want to get these to plug into my Xbox One controller, but I keep seeing a lot of conflicting information about the impedance. A lot of people say that having an amp is a must, but you are saying that you do not need an amp. Do you find that you miss out on a lot of sound quality if you do not use an amp? I am worried about the bass being weak without enough power to the set. I do not want to buy these and also need to get an amp. That is sort of a deal breaker for me. I was planning on giving up on these and just getting a lower impedance headset, but if they are fine without an amp then I may consider getting them. Could you comment with some additional detail on the sound quality of the set plugged directly into an Xbox One Controller versus using an amp?
@gamegeartv8167
6 жыл бұрын
When they first released they were 150 ohms, but were later revised to 50, which is what I have and what you would get buying new. With the Xbox controller they produce just about the right volume for me and are plenty loud. They won't blow your ear drums out though. They are a bass neutral headset. It's there but it's not hyped at all, so if you want more bass you would need an amp, if for nothing else just to tune the EQ. I do think they sound great directly to the controller, and all I gained using the mixamp was higher volume, which I didn't need because they are loud enough as is. The sound they are tuned for is very good out of the box and fiddling with the EQ didn't do much for me as I liked the way they sounded. I also tried them with a Turtle Beach headset adapter and the results were interesting to me. I've used that adapter with a Steel Series Arctis 3 and it boosted the overall volume and improved the sound profile. With the Game One the adapter killed it's max volume and muddied the sound.

@@gamegeartv8167 This Is EXCELLENT ifo and the direct answer to the question I was just about to ask:-) I had my 8 year old Wired Astro A40 set stolen a few months ago when we had a Fire Evacuation. Wife just bought me a brand new fully wireless Astro A50 headset but I find the sound pretty disappointing to be honest. VERY LOUD which is nice but I always have to dial it down quite a bit but DO love it's VERY big & punchy sound. VERY full and all but the soundstage is so very shrunken & tiny... Got them from Bestbuy so have till mid Jan 2019 to return them thanks to the Holiday extended return policy:-) I just ordered a Black set of these from Amazon today to try for my Xbox One X I just bought. I am SO thrilled to find out they WILL at least work plugged into the controller but no volume control is a VERY big issue for me so may not keep them, just need to hear the sound first when they arrive tomorrow. I know Sennheiser sells their OWN Amp for this at $250.00 and their latest revision of it supposedly makes this very headset sound almost too good to even believe? If I like these a lot and if I do get a much wider soundstage over the very tiny one in my A50's, I will buy that new Sennheiser amp after returning those Astros to BestBuy. But for ME the key is how W I D E the stage is. I need a wider sound to make it give me what I am after. This review with all the comments and YOU ( GameGear TV) responding to these questions clearly just makes SO much possible for those of use trying to decide our way through all this minefield of tech choices! @@mikecartwrightbeach Thank you so much for the kind feedback. It's a great headset and I look forward to hearing what you think of it. Be sure to play around with the different surround options (stereo, windows sonic, dolby atmos, etc...) to see which provides the best sound stage for you. I'm partial to windows sonic myself. I have been researching to see if there is a way I can do a work around to get Sennheiser's amp to work with Xbox, but nothing yet. I am considering trying out a Creative Labs amp and trying to get the microphone functionality to work. I hope my wife is willing to buy me headsets when I'm 70!

How loud you you have to have it to be able to hear your chat party? I thought they were noise cancelling
@gamegeartv8167
5 жыл бұрын
The level of noise cancellation is also based on the software it's being run through. Xbox party chat has a lighter noise gate than steam party chat for instance. So it's more prone to pick up and retransmit the party chat. I would say over 75% volume is where it starts to be more noticeable. Usually people don't complain about it, but sometimes someone will comment that they are echoing in my mic. I like having an open back, but if you are running it on Xbox and want to negate the echo you may consider the Game Zero or massdrop pc37x which are both closed back.

@@gamegeartv8167 Thank you for your reply. So if I understand your message correctly, I can change the Chat settings using XBox Settings > Display & sound > Volume > Chat mixer. The Game One is obviously much more affordable ($170 ish less). And has a better microphone and a good clean sound. The A50 is wireless and has an adjustable EQ and has more bass. How loud it has to be depends partly on who your talking to. If your party member has a loud mic or just talks loudy it will pick it up.
