Sometimes you just can't win for losin' my friend. But don't be discouraged you'll get there eventually, wherever there may be... As far as the Dogellac goes, best way forward IMO is to just get stuck in & start ripping out the bad & the burned. Focus on getting the things that need to go, gone. And then clean up what you have left, build back from there. A lot easier to get motivated when the reminders of what has passed are gone, and all you have left is the clean slate to rebuild on. Peace brother.

Sorry to hear about the cam, Waylon.. don't forget the metal from the cam and lifter went through the oil pump. The filter should have stopped the shavings before the engine oil system, but not the pump, cam would make very small shavings being cast iron, too small for the pickup screen. So I recommend a new pump. Melling makes a new style pump with a bolt on pickup screen so save the ass pains of the weld in screen. And please be carefull of what brand of cam you buy, the market is flooded with Chinese lifters and more and more guys are finding JUST EXCACTLY what you just did,, they wear out sometimes during the cam breakin procedure.

You posted before the weekend, so I knew something was up. I had been saying to myself that the Phoenix's exhaust note sounded a little "off", but I couldn't quite put my finger on it, without being right next to it, but it looks like you're going to get it sorted. You know, MrHevyShevy has a square with a dead cylinder on the same side; I wonder if it is something similar. But like I said before, you got this. Take it one step at a time, and before you know it, the Phoenix, Dodgillac, AND the Dirty Dozen will be ready to go.😀👍

I know there have been a bunch of bad lifters made lately. Be sure to ask around the hot rod shops where to get good ones.. I use 15-40 international tractor diesel oil for flat tappet cams. All my tractors and combine have flat tappet cams, so it works in my 350 engines too since the zink is gone from car oil. roller cams work good too.

Make sure you check the crown on every one of those new lifters to be sure they've been ground properly because that's the one of the major problems these days. It's often not so much a cam failure as it is poor quality lifters wrecking havoc....

I have learned that ole rigs can be cranky at times. My 86 Dodge blew a rubber hose for the trans at the radiator, then proceeded to pump fluid directly into the fan. 5 minute fix but the mess was horrible. I took a bath in it leaning under the hood. It also gave my alternator a bath which shorted it to ground the next day. Thank goodness for a volt gauge, it was at 16. I am sure you will get the Phoenix sorted out. It is such a nice ole truck, the body and paint turned out awesome. It just sucks that it has gotten so cranky lately. Oh yeah I am having to rebuild one of my builds as well, so I know the feeling of having to do the Dogellac again as well. But, like mine, things can be improved upon. - Jamie

At least your red truck will be like new! Don’t get discouraged, you’re doing better than me who has multiple unfinished projects! In my case I have one pickup that I hit two deer with. A Buick LeSabre that needs tranny work and rear suspension work (from being strapped down on a boat coming from Hawaii! And other projects that were put on hold while dealing with multiple surgeries and dealing with cancer and a stroke of the eye! So please hang in there! I’m chiseling away at my projects and problems one at a time along with taking care of my widowed 90 year old mother and a ten acre farm. Ok you are on the right track, cam, cam and cam bearings will help that oil pressure. A set of lifters for sure and check the height of all the studs. Pull the head and check for a bent valve in that low cylinder or a worn guide. Wish I lived close enough to help. Good luck. That lifter wore out for a reason, worn cam bearings causing low oil pressure or a slapping valve.
@donbrutcher4501

Engine do not like sitting for long periods. The oil drains down and they go dry. Modern aftermarket cams don't have the same heat treat as original equipment. MOPARS have much better design oil pumps that fords and Chevyies. Prime the engines before starting!

That's the way it goes. I had a similar thing happen to me I had my truck painted and some engine work done and new brakes and I was going out to go camping and my transmission went out 3300. Dollars later she was done. Then I bought a new ARE shell for it and 2 weeks later some thieves cut it off my truck and stole it. They left behind the damage of about 2K. I ended up buying a used shell and now I'm working on painting it to semi match my truck.Sometimes it takes awhile to end. Take care.

I am glad you got the truck together, it looks GREAT. But....to this DAY, you still have the same cheap fuel line and the same fire-trap plastic fuel filter on there. After all that has happened with stuff burning up. I only have one question....WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT???? It's c r a p crap. It doesn't even look like you spent the extra few cents on fuel-injection style clamps that don't eat into the fuel line. Why? I don't even put that stuff on a lawnmower. NHRA won't let people anywhere near a track if they have over a foot of rubber fuel line in place. It may be even less than that now. If you really wanted to, you could flare up some nice 3/8 stainless tube, put a nut on the upper end at the carb(they did it originally when those carbs were actually Carter AFB's), and then locate the filter down low BEFORE the pump so it doesn't cause grief if it splits or something else happens to it. I understand that change is hard, especially at an advanced age. However, the reality is that we only have offshore rubber line and offshore fuel filters now and those nice, underpaid, overworked people there don't give a crap if Ken's ride burns to the ground a second time and possibly takes everything else with it . I thought nobody could touch Rpeek when it came to ignoring sound advice, but nope.I'll tune in next time to make sure you put the same old junk fuel line back on it. You can tell me off, tell me to take my meds or more of them if you want to or delete my comment...it's fine, but my advice is sound. "They" say that KZitem is no longer a place to learn anything....

Hey Ken you have to use break in oil on those 70s engines when using a flat tappet cam that have zinc in it. the modern day oil dosen't have zinc in it and after that always use oil that has zinc additive to prevent lifter and cam lobe wear. the modern oil does not have zinc in it because the modern engines use roller cams and lifters that don't require zinc.

Your videos are Great Ken. Well at least you found out what it is. If that engine was redone about 5 years ago, that was dead smack in the middle of the Widespread Camshaft Failures that had lots of people hating life. With that low number of miles you had on yours, could have been just another one of those cases. Piss poor machining of the cam, lifter or both from overseas seemed to be the consensus for most all the studies I'd seen. Sucky deal. I thing the QC has improved a bit, but it's probably best to check the replacement cam and lifters over really well make sure the machining is what it's suppose to be. Oh and also.... send that broken engine mount BACK for cryin out loud. That's ridiculous! No way should it have been sold like that! Garbage!
