Adam brings new wife Millie home to his high-country farm, where she meets more than she expected to find: six more brothers. The scene is well underplayed, best byJane Powell. Her role is stereotypical, but her reaction is not. Instead of breaking into tears and feeling sorry for herself as the audience is let to expect, Millie rolls up her sleeves and gets to it, showing grit and character. Pay attention to Stanley Donen's staging, choreographed much like a dance.
