The HTB748 Allison Transmission can be detuned to HT740 status just like the NJ transit corporation MCI MC9B Crusader ii Commuter Coaches which most of us rode them back when they were in revenue with NJ transit buses are 5000 - 5414 series were anywhere in New Jersey Pennsylvania and New York

Loved riding these when I was a kid. Heading up to UCSF on the 44 for doctors appointments.

These were some great buses. These had Allison HTB-748 transmissions, but they sounded more like HT-740's.

TheCRTman Why did they sound more like Allison HT740s? Where they tuned to shift like an HT740?

GarbageSean Actually yes, the 1989's we had were tuned to shift early like an Orion I or an HT-740. However the 1988's had a better tuning. In fact, this recording is of 8940, not 8840.

But how come they were tuned to shift like an HT740? Also, any videos of MUNI's Orion I's on here?

probably for fuel economy since the 1989's and many HT740s shift lower, also I have a video of muni's orion 9010

NScaleTransitModels(lolfunnycp) I was told Muni adjusted the shifting to handle the hilly terain of San Francisco.
