During Kabbalat Shabbat at Temple Israel (West Bloomfield, Mich.), Rabbi Jen Lader reflects on her recent trip to Israel and how it was important that she go there to witness, hear and see. Upon arriving in Israel, it was clear that things were different from the moment the solidarity trip she was on landed.
In talking to Israelis, every person felt the attacks of October 7th came for them and they all felt a sense of sadness and violation. Despite this, Israelis felt that in this moment of sadness, a light shines bright much like our Ner Tamid (eternal light). The Jewish people are a 'people of light', Rabbi Lader shares and that one small light can make a difference.
