In the spirit of Purim for her sermon during Kabbalat Shabbat services last week, Rabbi Jennifer Kaluzny emphasized how relevant and applicable the themes within Book of Esther have been throughout our history, and even today. In a world filled with excess, the story reminds us of the dangers of losing sight of our values. Rabbi Jen notes how excess and absolute power can corrupt, and that we mustn't lose sight of that while navigating life's challenges.
Despite being a scattered community, we must stand together against injustice and prejudice. No one else will save us; it's up to us to be our own heroes.
