The mastermind behind an armed robbery in which a police officer was shot dead has been told that his “violent, callous actions” robbed her daughter of precious time with her.
PC Sharon Beshenivsky, who was 38, was shot at point-blank range as she responded to reports of a raid at Universal Express, a travel agent in Bradford, West Yorkshire, on November 18, 2005.
Piran Ditta Khan, now 75, formerly of Ilford in Essex, had said the owner of the travel agency had owed him £12,000 and that a debt collector had offered to recover the money. Khan, who was born in Pakistan and held dual nationality, fled to Islamabad after Beshenivsky was killed.
