Typical younger brother, snitching on the older one. And then, once the coast is clear, the true nature of the matter is revealed. Honestly, he looks every inch the naughty school boy who got away with burning the school house down. I wonder if filming this scene brought back any childhood memories of trying to get away with something as a child, especially since his mother is playing his mother.

Sooo... It doesn't work the opposite way? When the older one snitches on the younger one? #onlychildsquestions
@sensensensibility1713
10 жыл бұрын
***** It would depend on the situation. Most of the time, when the older one snitches on the younger, it comes across as annoying because the older sibling's word will be virtually taken as gospel. Also, the older sibling, most of the time will refuse to allow themselves to get caught in a situation where the younger one can tell on them. So, when the younger sibling has the perfect opportunity to snitch on the older sibling, and hopefully not get into trouble themselves, they will take it. (I was the oldest child for about 10 years, until my parents adopted 3 siblings older than me, so I'm very familiar with how the pecking order is.)

I really live off this interaction here. It's brilliant writing in so many ways, especially when Mycroft says "I have a job offer I would like you to decline." Despite the bursts of animosity (see the "are you smoking" pass the blame) and long strings of competitiveness between them (he could have said "I accept to spite you"), Sherlock trusts his brother's intelligence and foresight enough to accept first, ask second. There's no fluffiness, but it expresses the same feeling as brotherly sentiment.

But according to Mark Gatiss, Sherlock has "done it" although he didn't say who with. My guess is with Molly after Eurus made him realise that he loved her - that's why Molly comes bounding into the room at the very end of S4 - that's my opinion, anyway.
@Serenity113

Well, Benedict believes that Sherlock did have sex with Irene Adler after A Scandal In Belgravia lol. But we may never know lol.
@chooseyourpoison5105
7 жыл бұрын
Possibly - we all know what Irene's invitations of "let's have dinner" were a euphemism for, lol, but remember Sherlock's response was "Why would I want to have *dinner* with you if I wasn't hungry?" I think Sherlock is fascinated by Irene because she's the only one who matches him in cunning; he saved her life basically so he'd have someone to flex his intellect against and stop him getting bored (and we all know how Sherlock hates to be bored!) but he doesn't fancy her. Irene's intelligence lies in her cunning and deviousness; Molly's intelligence lies in her ability to see straight to the heart of a situation and set about problem solving it. (Remember when Sherlock says "Molly, I think I'm going to die," Molly not only knows immediately what he's really saying, but shoots straight back with "What do you need? Even John says that Molly is "the only person who sees through your bullshit.") I would like to think that Eurus made Sherlock realise what was under his nose all along and that they got together at the end of S4 - Molly's smile as she comes bounding into the room is quite a big clue :)

My favorite part of this scene, besides the scene as a whole, is Sherlock exhaling when she shuts the door. Also, the fact that afterwards they just go back to their conversation as though it never happened- with no comment from Mycroft that Sherlock tried to blame him. I sort of like the idea that, contrary to most younger siblings blaming their older siblings, when Sherlock blames Mycroft it's true and Mycroft just always finds a way out of getting in trouble for it. OR he never refutes it because he keeps Sherlock out of trouble.
