Shillelagh with The Pogues as soundtrack - I cannot think of a better combination.

Good video. I've come to love the Irish stick. I've studied the basics of both the Antrim and Doyle styles, and they are some of the best and most accessible techniques for everyman combat and self-defense

The faction fight looks like something to do at least once in a lifetime. Though I wonder if it wouldn't make more sense to use the shillelagh two handed since it is long enough to do so and you can deal better with grabs, which I think might be important in group fights.

I mostly use the stick in two hands more control and harder hit just one hand for the hit to the leg like English long sword 😊

Haha i like the part near the end when everyones had a few shots and grizzly loses his stick/gets hit and tries to leave but get mobbed by everyone around him wailing on him, i imagine thats exactly how it went.

This is why they were ilunpleasantly sticky. All the grip change possibilities with less of a chance of being disarmed.

This is very interesting, but I have one question, doesn't the lack of exposed fingers and their agility drastically change the fight? with full armor it seems like a kempo fight almost. But unencumbered the shillelagh to me feels like it is meant to be nimbly swing around and accelerated at the moment of impact with a loose grip and a flicking motion of the wrist to amplify the swing momentum. I would love more insight into this

Great to see more Irish stick fighting content out there. Does your group train in any style or is it more free play? Great work and if you ever want to discuss Irish stick I would be delighted.

A question somewhat related to stick-fighting: I was reading through Master of Defence a couple days ago and noticed that that our bio at the end you mentioned a potential book or paper on the English quarterstaff. Is that still in development or has that project been shelved?

I have it written - just a matter of finding time to do photos etc. The last few years have been disruptive (!) but by the end of this year I should be able to steam full ahead with a number of these projects
