Have a layover in January and planning to stay in Shinagawa overnight. Looks like a cozy neighbourhood. Skyway is lovely.

@@Sunny_in_Japan there's a hama sushi just south of the station. Also a Japanese garden near the Prince hotel that looks beautiful at night

@@Sunny_in_Japan Mitsui Garden hotel very close to Kabuki theater and Tsukiji. Not too far from Haneda and right at the heart of Tokyo so it was nice. I was afraid everything in Ginza would be expensive but had 500 yen ramen next to the hotel that was pretty good. Btw subscribed to your channel

I have a question if I use my suica card to go throw the first gate that would be my base fare correct? and if im heading to Osaka I know I need another ticket but when I get off in Osaka a pass through the gate I will scan my suica card again to exit in Osaka ?? what will they charge me ??? or i also seen people just get both tickets in the machine its so confusing if any tips on what to do exactly would be great thank you

Hi John, for regular trains (not bullet train), you are charged the distance of the trip. So it starts counting from when you first enter the platform (when you first scan the suica), to where you get off. For bullet trains, you will need to purchase a separate ticket at a specific Shinkansen vendor (sometimes they will have ticket machines too). If it’s the bullet train you are referring to, I would suggest speaking to a staff member at the station where you buy your ticket, as this process is a little more complicated, and they will be able to explain it best for your situation. I hope that helps!
