I have the opencomm v1 and really enjoy them. They are great except in a super noisy environment like an 18 wheeler. The vibration when you turn the volume up is a bit like a tickle. What I've found is if you are doing something like cutting the grass they aren't loud enough BUT if you put in a pair of ear plugs to mute the lawnmower they are plenty loud and it increases the perceived bass response. I'm not sure there would be enough improvement for me to justify upgrading to v2 but if it's your first pair I'd go with v2. Just a side not, if you are in an extremely noisy location such as an 18 wheeler a blueparrott is a superior option. Your voice to the other person is many times better.

Did you happen to do the same mic test and background noise comparison with Air Pods Pro 2 vs Opencomm UC gen2 vs the latest open run Pro? I believe the Opencomm gen2 have bone conductance gen7 where the latest open run pro has gen9. Do you believe this has a major impact on sound quality or just improved range of sound?
@HeadsetAdvisor

Opencomm UC gen 2 will have way better noise cancellation that AirPods Pro 2 on a computer. If using it on a newer iPhone there is noise cancellation built into the phone. The gen7 on Opencomm won’t sound as good for music as compared to gen9 it only really affects the speaker quality. Hopefully Shokz will come up with gen 9 in the future on opencomm

I have the first version and I love it. I can't wait to buy the second version. I went through several different headsets because I get headaches easily from the pressure of the headphones covering my ears. I work in a call center from home and I need to wear a Headset for long periods of time. After trying out several headsets and returning them I finally discovered this version from a coworker who had one. I bought it right away and I love it. I do have the Jabra evolve 75 which I love as a back up headset. That was my first wireless headset before buying the other models I have purchased that didn't work for me until I found this version. I will be buying the second version of this headset as soon as it becomes available on your website. For anybody who is reading this I use mine for zoom on my computer. I don't need to do anything fancy it just works. I have never tried it on teams but I'm thinking it would still work the same. I just basically set my computer sound settings to the speakers and microphone of this headset. The other thing is I am totally blind so being able to hear my surroundings around me and not have people yelling to get my attention is great. I definitely love this headset.

I currently use the first version (non USB) Opencomm, next to a Jabra Evolve2 75, Jabra Speak 710 × 2 and an Audeze Filter). I paired it with a Jabra 380 BT USB dongle to the PC & with my phone. It's a headset you can wear all day without any fatigue. In my experience, putting the mic upright has a mute-like effect due to noise-canceling (which is excellent, and why I bought it after a demo by EBPMAN ). It's an exceptional headset for voice. Listening to music is a bit of a stretch. It takes some getting used to (certainly when compared to audiophile level IEMs). The only drawback is that muting the mic in Teams gives a hard annoying repetitive tone which I can't bear. But I use KRISP for noise-canceling on the PC, and I found out that muting the mic in KRISP does not yield the same annoying tone in the Opencomm. There's not a doubt in my mind about getting the Opencomm2. (but it's not commercially available yet…)

Are you using BT directly, or connecting via the dongle? It would be truly excellent news if they got rid of the beep altogether! I second that. I'm hoping Shokz does not go down the Jabra path of 'updating' the mic setting to be so aggressive that it sounds unnatural. From your review of Opencomm2 it seems they've stuck with a natural mic calibration, ie allowing some environmental sounds and not over-digitising noise reduction. I'm hoping the 'over the air updates' will not change that. My suggestion to Shokz: allow us to choose the aggressiveness of noise cancellation to cater for different scenarios and different user tastes. I think that would truly differentiate an already excellent product.

The hearing loss claim of bone conduction may not stand up to scrutiny (for all bone conduction headsets), as the premise is based on bypass of the outer and middle ear to reach the inner ear. Those with conditions of the middle or outer ear may benefit, however, the most common cause of hearing loss is actually due to sensorineural deficit caused by (loud noise) damage to hair cells at the base of the cochlea (inner ear). So...for most people with hearing loss, bone conduction will not necessarily help. It would be best to first speak to your GP or audiologist if you have a history of hearing loss, before spending money on any bone conduction headphones thinking they will be a miracle for you.
@HeadsetAdvisor
8 ай бұрын
Fair points and it's always worth meeting with an audiologist to know your hearing health. Adding to what you said, the downside is audiologists won't know which headsets to recommend for various devices someone would connect to for work (desk phone, computer or mobile phone). So, it can sometimes be trial and error of testing a number of different headsets like one that's bone conduction or another that fully encloses your ears. We wish they made more headsets for work designed specifically for the needs of those with hearing impairments and compatibility to various devices.

Probably borders on a rhetorical question, but I assume these suffer from the same issues as all/most bluetooth headsets? The old Aeropex were life-changing for both sports as well as general comfort, so I eventually tried both them as well as the OpenComm1 (even with their house-made dongle), but they appeared to be unsuitable for anything but just phonecalls or just listening to music as doing either of those at the same time as something else (Discord, games, music, videos) would just kill any semblance of sound quality. In addition, they were subject to a very noticable delay, which made them entirely unsuitable for gaming (sound would arrive after an action had been performed already). I really just want this kind of headset without the Bluetooth weaknesses, that would be a dream come true.

I’ve used the gen 1 for about a month: 1) If you wear glasses or sunglasses, they’re uncomfortable. 2) Just because the person can hear you doesn’t mean you can hear them. 3) Not having USB-C is still a horrible decision. If they included a flap, or some other means of covering the port to still keep the IP rating would be perfect. I lost my original cable and was unable to use them for a little while. So if you have animals, kids or anyway of the cable getting damaged, you’re out of luck. The shocks keep both ears open and makes it very difficult to listen in a loud environment. One of the suggested ways to fix this is to wear earplugs or crank the volume as high as possible. The sound test to the laptop is better, but what about an actual call - what does the other person hear?

For a voice call, will using the dongle or not make a differense? Like, does using it improve the sound quality?
@HeadsetAdvisor
Жыл бұрын
Specifically for voice quality the Dongle won't have an effect. The USB Dongle will give you better audio in speaker when connecting to a computer and a more reliable connection. Last thing you want to deal with is your headset randomly disconnecting and bad call quality.

Another thing I wanted to add is I use 59 soft phone service at work and instead of using the mute button on the microphone I just use either the mute button on 59 or the whole button when I'm speaking to a customer and I need to put them on a brief hold. I found that beeping noise When I wouldn't use the microphone very very annoying. But at the same time it helps me to know that my microphone is muted. But like I said before I just use the settings on my 59 application to put a customer on hold or mute the customer. I should say mute myself.

It's a common question :) Bluetooth on computers for audio devices can be unreliable, and give degraded audio. The USB Dongle avoids these type of issues so you're setup for the best experience.

aw man, I had really high hopes for the mic, but it's not anywhere near as clear as what you would get from the valve index or bigscreen beyond HMD. These kinds of headsets are really good for use in VR. I've yet to find the perfect headset, which to me seems pretty obvious: A COMBONATION of bone conduction and air conduction A clear, -software free- noise cancelling mic with rode-like voice reproduction and voice EQ options The option to use a wired connection via TRRS cable and/or USB-C internal sound card and/or Bluetooth 5.3, WITH LOW LATENCY modes, like you find on a Woojr kit.

just received the Opencomm2 and I can say that they are really good. works flawless with zoom and also connects to a second device (iphone) easily. in terms of sound quality i found that connecting directly to a computer via bluetooth is much better than using the dongle. the microphone also work much better with a direct bluetooth connection. overall i would rate these very high for working with zoom and teams. the sound quality for music is limited however you are likely to have a better music experience with the openrun pro. oh yes, thank you Headset Advisor for the quick delivery.
