What a magical tone, and just like his deceased brother Malcolm (R.I.P), Angus sounds better live than in the studio, a testimony to his tremendous skill and talent. Gibson SG + Marshall Amp = Rock N Roll Heaven.

@@techdeathhippie6319 I absolutely love the tone on The Razors Edge and the following tour. The sound changed quite noticeably on the Ballbreaker tour. I was so used to jamming to Live and TRE for 5 years before Ballbreaker I just got used to it. The Ballbreaker tours tone was relatively clean, even more so than the 70's and 80's. I personally prefer Angus with a more distorted tone combined with Malcolms overdriven clean sound. I think it does Angus best when he has that grittier tone for the feedback and solo's. He's always been a master at controlling the volume like the mid section to this song that he finger picks (which kicks a**) and then he cranks the volume back up to blast that solo. I just think the way he plays with his bends and vibrato and a lot of picking that a more distorted tone fits him best. That's the magic of Malcolm and Angus, how their tones are quite different but blend perfectly. He also has a signature pickup with a bit higher output than what's regularly found on Gibson's. All I know is the band was on fire for TRE tour and looking at their entire career since the mid 70's until today, I personally think that was the last tour where they were firing on all cylinders before age started to noticeably catch up to them. When they came back and toured in 96', you could tell the flame came down a notch, especially combined with that cleaner sound. I'm so glad they recorded Donnington and caught the band professionally shot at this level. You can see what I'm talking about if you compare Donnington to No Bull.

I dont get why people are saying these are studio recordings or overdubs these ARE the live recordings and they WERE that good sure it would of been cleaned up a little in post processing but at its core its what they played! Dont believe me? Go listen to brians channel on the donnington 5.1 dvd its all there in the bleed over you can even hear brian swear with pure joy and shout at the crowd not to mention all the grunts he makes These this and that comments dont do any justice to the life long work the band put in RIP Mal your band and legacy will not be tinged ♥️⚡️

The thing is, there Are some studio overdubs. There's just no consistency on which tracks have them and which tracks don't. Using this STT track as an example: literally the whole Angus track is an overdub. There is 0 mic bleed in his recording. Go listen to Whole Lotta Rosie or Highway to Hell and you will hear what the proper mic bleed should sound like at ALL times. There will never be a perfectly isolated 100% clean track like we hear here. With a stage at that volume level it is physically impossible to have 0 mic bleed. Even with proper gating and post processing you would hear bleed in any sustained notes. What you hear in terms of "bleed" up until the 0:34 second mark is due to how the Rock Band Multitracks organize the song parts by track. So in the game at that part of the song, the note chart is playing the Malcolm guitar part, so the Angus track gets thrown into the Background essentially. There are aux tracks in the multitracks that are mainly used for the Crowd noise and some background vocals, but occasionally you will get Angus or Malcolm's guitar tracks sent into those tracks because of the way the game does the note charts for the guitar hero guitar stuff. Thunderstruck is notorious for this as it switches between the two parts constantly. Those Crowd tracks have all the mic bleed of the original concert as the mics are recording the crowd. So that's what you're hearing, not the actual bleed of the instruments from the mic recording the one Angus cab on stage. You can also compare to the VHS version and listen to the solos and ending: they have different tones and performances. The VHS has Some / Most of the original performance.

The only part NOT overdubbed here is the intro, where you can clearly hear the drums bleeding through the mic.

Notice Angus SG is tighter and more distorted sounding than Malcolms Gretsch which was more open and jangly.....amazing how they blended together.

He uses different Marshall tube amps than Malcolm. Angus uses Super Leads, while Malcolm used Super Basses. The latter's tone is typically cleaner.

This is the tour Angus used boogie rectifier heads hence the gain structure and the sound that is nothing like a Marshall plexi thankfully he ditched it and went back to a clean marshal jtm sound, and there are overdubs all over the donnington live dvd

not the entire track. the beginning up to 00:34 is one source (the one we first heard with the 2003 dvd reissue), from then on it might be the actual recording from august 1991. the two or more sources can easily be compared / distinguished :-) but who knows: even the original vhs was overdubbed, but in a way more subtle way than the dvd (where for example the solo of fire your guns is totally off with the video)
