Not the biggest Mustang Fan, but I appreciate the shortscale and the kinda different tone the Mustang got🙂

I heard a band on KZitem that had a Mustang with both pickups replaced with stacked humbuckers and the guitar sounded really good. Like the Electro-Harmonix fuzz sound here but bigger. I can see how these could be part of any player’s collection. Great playing,as always.

Great review and history recap. I like the offsets but they are more collection pieces. I have the Jazzmaster, Jaguar and Mustang all from SQ CV series. The first 2 i upgraded with Fender True Vintage 65 pickups, for the Mustang Seymour Duncan has a really good set of Antiquity II pickups.

No, that's exactly the reason to get one, because you don't have anything like it. Same with the Jazzmaster and Jaguar. They are each their own and not like anything else you have. I'd guess you have your favorites and multiple of them. That's fine, but it's great to have a variety of different guitars.

@@bciecko1 yeah I have a variety and of course I get the itch to get more but I just have to live with the guitars I've got. My reasoning for not getting a stang isn't because of anything about the stang, they are cool. I love offsets, I have two of em.

I really like the Mustang switching options. The out of phase sound is really weird sounding. It's not something anyone would want to use all the time, but it's great for things like funk. I wish the out of phase setting was available on more Fender models.

People they they're small, they really aren't in the way people think though. For example, the telecaster is. 25.5" scale length. The Mustang (and Jaguar) comes in at 24" scale length. However, the overall length of the Mustang is longer than the Telecaster, despite the 1 and half inch longer scale.

Yes there is not much difference when it comes to the length! Though the size of the body seems significantly smaller when playing

@@DressedInBlack Yeah, but not so much so that it feels like a child's guitar. Some have belly carves as well, some are slab body. You should play a Pawnshop Series Mustang Special, talk about tiny. That body is smaller and about half the thickness of a regular Mustang.

They're quite light too, certainly compared to Jaguar/Jazzmaster models and many other guitars.

Leo Fender's goal was to introduce students to the fender line up. It started with the dual sonic, then the mustang, which lead to the surf craz Jaguar. if you wanted a "beginners guitar", back then the dual sonic and-/or mustang was the go to instrument (not some cheap €90 strat for example). the short "short" mustang (22.5" scale) is very rare in Mocha stain, i recall finding one for sale in German for over 8.000€.

I had a 1973 Red Mustang that I paid $125 for in 1988. Some *sshole broke into my house and stole it! It was in perfect condition. I still have the whammy bar. 😞

Johnny Marr would uptune his Jaguar to F#. Short scale guitars make this a lot easier...

I have a couplw Mustangs; A Squier Classic Vibe (CV) in Candy Apple Red and a Fender Kurt Cobain Signature Mustang in Dark Lake Placid Blue wirh the competition stripe. Both great guitars and rhr Japanese Fender isnt noticably better in any quality, just different in features. Same woth the Japanese MG65 I had as well. Great, but not any bettr than any other Fender or Squier. My CV is totally modded now, pickuos and trem and the rest of the electronics and a great olatform to mod from or keep stock. There is a hunbucker version that is a Squier Bullet Mustang. I had one bur dodnt like it. Pickups are good but i dont like the bare necks on them. Tuners suck. Those particular squiers, the bullet line, can suffer more from Quality Conteol issues. Id say it tounwant a mustang make sure to get one with the proper switches. Out of phase is a cool sound and getting proper twangy Mustang pickups is a super cool sound. Nothing feels like a tewn on a Mustnag either. Norhing. They're totally unique and happen to be my favorite trem. The reason the offset guitars became popukar again is bwcause idnrheir affordability. For thr reasons you mentioned, not being popular in their oroginal time, it meant that tjeough thrblate 80's and early 90's they were extremely afrordable. People thought they were dorky. There were so many around and for such good prices that ounk and indie and grunge bands picked them up--it was all they could afford.
