I want to say thank you for your reply to my question about the prepositions in the word combination "in the corner" and "at the corner". I have never been sure which to use when I talk about the street. Sometimes l hear people say " on the corner of the street" What is correct? You should come up with new lessons more often. I can hardly wait for the next class. Take care. Have a nice weekend.
@oxfordenglishnow

Hi Natalie, yes, « on the corner of the street » is correct too because we say on the « High Street. ». I agree, I should come up with new lessons more often and I will endeavour to do so! Thanks and have a great weekend too!

This is brilliant video which i have heard so far thank you mam, but i have question about when do we use should have or should have been.please clarify it.
@oxfordenglishnow
4 жыл бұрын
Hi Veeresh, well you should now know how to use should have after watching the lesson. Should have been is also a past modal. We use 'should have been' with nouns, for example: 'My father was a teacher, but he didn't like his job. He should have been a doctor.' 'Should have been' is also used with adjectives, for example: 'My father was sad when his fourth child was born. I don't understand it: he should have been happy' And we also use 'should have been' with passive verb forms: 'Nobody told me that the lesson had been cancelled. I should have been told by email.' If the verb is active, use should have without been, like this: 'Nobody told me that the lesson had been cancelled. The college should have told me by email.' Hope this helps! 🙏

Hi ma'am Hope you are doing well I do have a doubt regarding the usage of modal verbs . used after "that" and adjectives or nouns that show an opinion or feeling: "It's so unfair that she should have died so young" PS: Taken from Cambridge dictionary What does this mean ma'am. Did she come back to life after a critical illness or the speaker is unaware of her condition now . I couldn't make out what they are trying to convey. Please do clear my doubt ma'am "I am amazed that he should have done something so stupid." "It's strange that he should have confided in her" Could you plz explain me did he done something stupid and confided in her or the speaker is assuming that. Thanking you

Hi sabana, "It's so unfair that she should have died so young" means that she is dead. I am amazed that he should have done something so stupid." Yes, he has done something stupid. "It's strange that he should have confided in her" Yes, she has confided in her. Should here is used to express surprise or regret about something that happened. I hope that helps!
