As we leave Canada Place in Vancouver, BC, aboard Holland America’s MS Koningsdam, we are greeted by stunning panoramic views of the city’s skyline, framed by the rugged North Shore Mountains. The bustling sounds of the port and the city gradually fade as the ship glides through Burrard Inlet. We can hear the soft hum of the ship’s engines, punctuated by the occasional call of seagulls circling overhead.
As the vessel moves away from the dock, the iconic white sails of Canada Place shrink in the distance. To our left, Stanley Park’s dense, green forests stand out, while to the right, industrial shipyards and commercial buildings line the shore. The wind begins to pick up, carrying with it the salty air of the Pacific, mixed with the scent of fresh pine from the surrounding forests.
Once past Lions Gate Bridge, the city’s skyline begins to disappear behind us, replaced by the tranquil, open waters of the Strait of Georgia. The excitement of embarking on a grand journey sets in as the MS Koningsdam steers toward the Inside Passage, where the adventure truly begins.
