Thanks for the great comparison! Personally I'd choose the 35mm 1.2 any time because I'm a bokeh and image quality fanatic 😅 and don't like the bokeh of the Sigma 35mm 1.4. Interestingly there are also cheaper 35mm lenses with nice bokeh like the Samyang 35mm 1.8 (which is about 400€). So I'll take this one if I don't want to carry the weight of the 35mm 1.2.
@TomCalton

It's really tough between these two. The 1.2 is better image quality, but the price is just going to be too much for most. The 1.4 is great in terms of price and size, but the fringing sucks! I'm definitely going to have to do a 35mm group test soon to find out once and for all which is the best 35mm 🤔

The shallower the depth of field, the more gearing is required, and the slower the lens will focus. The more the motor needs to chug to move the elements. That is unfortunately just physics. If you want blink speed focus, try an f2 prime
@TomCalton
3 жыл бұрын
I don't think that's always entirely true. I recently tested the Sigma 35mm f/2 and the focusing speed is almost identical to the f/1.2. I think there are ultimately a number of factors that determine the AF speed.
@daxshell242
3 жыл бұрын
@@TomCalton of course its not a hard and fast rule. You need an efficient motor. Unfortunately, f/2 will also often compromise on motor quality. Its also assuming both lenses have been tuned well to the autofocus control software of the camera. Consider the zeiss f2.8. That lens is nearly instant focusing.

I was looking for a 35mm a couple of months ago and decided to go with Sony 35 1.8 due to it's smaller size and being lighter and also the AF quieter and faster. I had to decide between sigma 35 1.4 and Sony and even though sigma is faster at 1.4 and has less purple fringing I did went with Sony and I love it for it's small and compact size though now I do wish I had the 1.4 when shooting at night, I have to crank up the iso a bit more on my a7iii 😅
