How do you install the retaining clip to make sure it doesn't come off?

Awesome video, thanks! Just replaced the flywheel on mine and when I put the transmission back in it felt odd shifting and didn't want to go back into park. Super glad it was just a cable and not something worse

The white clip that holds in the lower cable, do you have a part number or know where I can get one? Mine broke

I had my shift cable pop off at the front. It’s exactly what yours is but I can’t get it to stay put when I pop it back on. Is there a bushing on yours?

No, Its one piece that just pops on. Maybe you need a new one?

i have important question. Please confirm why. @ 2.41 to 2.44 you say, to make sure all the way in before you put clip in. @ 2.46 to 2.49 you push in the clip, with the threads showing not all the way in. So... is the threads all the way in or not? Please explain. I am planning this job next weekend, "once the parts show up that is. I Would like to understand what happened that you pulled it out. Thanks Mister. BTW your tutorial was Most Excellent otherwise.

It turns out that is actually an adjustment. Put it in partway and attach clip. Check your shifter and you may have to adjust in out out some.

The engineers have their reason for this design & I would think one reason is so the tranny doesn't get damaged when things like this tree branch happen. I just did my lower cable & here is what worked for me: Have someone sit in the driver's seat, have everything reconnected except for the plastic clip that goes over the upper/lower cable joint & the two cable holders which press into the floorboard holes. Start like in the video with the spring entirely compressed & install the clip. Ask your helper to slowly shift through all positions. Mine would not go into manual & the cable would pop off the tranny lever. If yours isn't right, like mine, put it back in park, remove the clip while holding cable in with spring compressed then let it out about 1/16" & put clip in. Do this until you have it right. I let mine out about 1/8" from full compression & that's my sweet spot. All positions exact & cable stays on. Also, the cable does not come with a new C-clip so don't break or lose yours. Thanks for the video. It helped me out a great deal!

Is there a reason why a mechanic would say I can't just replace the lower shifter cable without replacing the whole wire? How long did it take you Lou? Thanks in advance.

Maybe some trucks have only a single cable?? Overall replacing the cable myself took two hours. If I did several of these, I could probably do it in one hour.

As a matter of how quick and easy you did your truck. People should be good that not all gmail vehicles are this easy. I just did a 2015 suburban and the electric running boards and it blocks the cable in total. Not easy

I am sorry, I don’t know the name of that part. Unfortunately, I doubt it is available separately. I think you will need to buy another cable. I think that’s part of the upper cable

I ended up buying the upper cable to get a new clip but now the cable won’t go onto the lever for the trans. It’s too long somehow when it was an exact match to the old one
