@@lemon9.9 No. There is no 3G coverage in the US anymore, and that's true for many other developed countries. Others will put it to rest very soon. Maybe if you are in the heart of Aftica you can find use for this for a little while longer.

Yeah, that’s why Arduino recently discontinued this version and released a new model called the MKR NB 1500 that supports LTE. Sadly it’s sold out on the Arduino store and way too expensive from other distributors.

Yeah, apparently 3G has already been phased out in America and Canada will follow in 2025. So I have until then before its data functionality stops working. The newer model of the board supports LTE but unfortunately it’s sold out

@@KeonsLab Considering some remote garage door openers require not only the device but also paid subscription to use their devices, it can go both ways.
@KeonsLab

They require subscriptions for a garage door opener!?? This is actually getting out of hand, they slyly slide IoT microcontrollers (ESP32,ESP8266,etc.) into devices that don’t need them, under the guise of convenience and functionality. (Small ‘rant’ below) Then they use the very same “features and functionality” and turn them against you. They make simple things like garage door openers come with all these ‘features’ like an app, monitoring, global access, etc. all only made possible with internet access. If a garage door opener couldn’t use wifi/bt, but only a MHz-range radio signal like they used to, no company would ever make a subscription service since they couldn’t enforce tagging and tracking everyone. I swear if I ever become lucky enough to start a company, I’d make it core to never do the anti-consumer behaviour we’re seeing in so many companies today. To make things durable again, to make things more REAL again. And lastly, I would never take the company public since that’s when the quality and care for the customer’s satisfaction seems to go down the drain, as long as they’re making numbers grow. I’d have it so that any (imaginary) company of mine would make things so rugged and high quality that years and years later, when the logo’s starting to fade and the colours starting to bleach, the actual device would still keep working and delivering on that promise of quality. Sorry for writing so much, it’s just something I’ve been thinking about for quite a long time.

Could you do an alarm system that activates when it get's triggered from a pin connection... Making a call and sending a message to an specific phone? It would be cool to see if this board can do It. My father and I would want to install It to a homemade alarm system (a buzzer that sounds after some seconds when a door get's opened) we made for our car.

It really depends on the application, the ESP32 is more suited for IoT stuff using wifi/Bluetooth while this specific GSM board is better for cellular based projects. But I believe they have a version of the MKR that has an ESP32 on-board.

I’d love to help but unfortunately I don’t have much experience with emulators/consoles or what their requirements are. But I’ve got a general idea. This may be totally wrong but I think you’d most likely have to step up from a microcontroller to a single board computer (like Raspberry Pi) to make an emulator like that. Now this is a total guess but a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W should be at least close enough for the GBA? I know the Raspberry Pi 4 can play PS1 games easily so that’s what I’m basing my guess on.

At the moment I’m not doing much IoT stuff, so my fav microcontroller is the good old ATMEGA328P! I wanna “master it” before moving on to IoT stuff with ESPs. The OEM ATMEGA328s from DigiKey or Mouser are ~$4 each, and I like to upload final versions of my programs onto them and keep them in labelled containers so I can free up my Arduino board for other stuff
