This presentation provides an introduction to the book titled: SIMPLE-G: A Gridded Economic Approach to Analysis of Sustainability of the Earth’s Land and Water Resources, edited by Iman Haqiqi and Thomas Hertel, and published by Springer. Chapter 12 introduces a version of SIMPLE-G that disaggregates water use in SIMPLE-G. The focus is on groundwater sustainability, considering a US policy focused on restoring groundwater withdrawals to sustainable levels. In so doing, it first considers the impact of future economic growth on gridded US groundwater withdrawals, demonstrating that the most important drivers come from overseas. When US groundwater withdrawals are restricted, there are spillovers to other locations, not only in the US, but also in other parts of the world.
