Thank you for making and posting these videos. Not only are you a great machinist but you are a teacher in video production. Your building each item with us in mind. Making sure we can see the reasons you take each step. Thank you!

Enjoy ALL of your videos!! keep them rolling, AND don't change the way you make them. The silence makes your videos relaxing to watch!!. I for one cant stand people rambling on and on in their videos especially when you can't understand what they are saying LOL. Thank you for making them, as I know its a lot of hard work.

The flutes on and end mill do not go close to the middle like a drill does. This makes it stronger, but it cannot plunge into work very far. A slot drill is weaker but can be plunged into work just like a drill.. A milling cutter is for cutting sideways with a slight ability to plunge and the slot drill is plunge capable, and works sideways but is more delicate as a result, unless anyone knows different :o)

Just for future reference, there are centre cutting 4 flute end mills, most solid carbide ones for instance.

You've got rid of that rattle on the lathe - probably been gone for ages and I haven't noticed. What was wrong with it? It sounds very quiet now. Great stuff on the traction engine, as ever. Thanks.

The rattle you mention comes from the change gears. I had the gears disconnected in this video as i wasn't using the powered leadscrew.

Stirling work as ever! I have been meaning to ask, do you have a winding handle for threading in the lathe? I have never seen you fitting one when you cut threads, and I assume you remove it before starting the machine.....
@Mentorcase

I'm going to guess he uses the drive belt to move it by hand.

Yes i have a handle. You can see it sitting at the back of the lathe in the fist video clip. It has to be removed before the lathe is run.

It's the term used in Britain for a type of end mill that can be plunged into the work like a drill. A regular end mill cannot be plunged. In America, the distinction is not common and the term end mill is universal.

The silver solder in the video is Easyflow 2. This is no longer available as it contains cadmium but cadmium free versions are available.
