Here it is Sunday afternoon and I am watching this video for the second time. The first time, a couple of years ago was for entertainment, but now I have a need to turn a brass cast wheel, that does not have a center hole and the outside is rather rough. I have put off working on this wheel, because I didn't know how to set it up on my 9 inch South Bend lathe. Then suddenly, after seeing what you did, I see the solution to my problem, and tomorrow out in the shop to make a backing plate. This video has indeed been helpful, thanks very much...Ken,... Again, new techniques to use. Those tires are good for a very long run. Thanks for sharing.

You're well on your way to making Trevor the Traction Engine from "Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends," by Rev. Wilber Awdry. This is true steam punk!

A wonderful vid as always, thank you! Being an ignorant outsider, I'm curious, why were you using what looks like a boring bar from 2:20 - 3:33?
@myfordboy
8 жыл бұрын
+verdatum It's like a boring bar but the tip is pointing the other way. I had to use this to machine the rim as a regular tool would not reach far enough.

Hi, Myford. How would you go about polishing those spokes if you wanted a polished finish? I know a CNC lathe could do it, but is there a good way to do it with less sophisticated tools?
@myfordboy
8 жыл бұрын
+Pablo GNB A traction engine would never have polished spokes. They would be difficult to polish on this casting due to the shape but a suitable casing could be polished on a polishing spindle.

I never saw anybody finishing a hole with a reamer. What is the reason doing that?
@myfordboy
8 жыл бұрын
+Mirko Mueller A drill does not make a very true hole. If you want an accurate hole for a shaft it is first drilled a few thousandths undersize and then the reamer is used to size it.

I still see that your videos have no narrative, very boring with no description of what you intend / are doing, so I am still not subscribing.
