Installing the Waistline Facing
(Sewing Directions Steps 17 & 18)
Student attached fusible interfacing to the front facing (3) and back facing (4) sections
Facing- A small separate piece of fabric used to finish the edge of a textile project.
Fusible Interfacing- Interfacing adds shape, strength and body to textile projects. Fusible interfacing has very small glue dots on the wrong side that when applied with an appropriate heat iron, will adhere to the fabric of the project. Fusible interfacing should be chosen by “weight” depending on the weight of the fabric being used for the project.
Student stitched together front and back facing sections, matching right sides, raw edges, and notches.
Finish and butterfly seam
Student finished unnotched edge of facing using the turned edge technique.
Turned Edge- A turned edge is an edge finishing technique that allows you to finish the raw edge of fabric. The edge of the fabric is stitched ¼” from the raw edge, folded along the stitching toward the wrong side of the fabric and stitched again.
Student pinned and sewed facing to the skirt, matching right sides, raw edges, and notches.
Facing should extend ⅝” beyond center back opening.
Student trimmed seam to ~¼” and clipped curves.
