My God. She sings The Foggy Dew, Danny Boy, & Molly Malone, songs we’ve all heard a thousand times, by a thousand different artists, and it’s like we’re hearing them for the very first time. The sign of a true artist, a special soul…🙏☘️🎼🎭😇♥️

Yes, indeed. You may like her on Dave Letterman's late show with Van Morrison, the Chieftains singing a most beautiful song. Another one is with the great Kris Kristofferson (sp?). She sang by herselfi Danny Boy and Don't cry for me Argentina. Oh, her voice was so beautiful and she was so young at the time. Most of all, she spoke on behalf of the voiceless - a brave young Irish woman. Ireland lost a pot of gold - a brilliant young woman.

Oh my word. Never did I expect to be blown away into a state of mesmerized goosebumps by the song "Molly Malone" -- a simple little folk ditty we've all heard thousands of times since childhood. ONLY Sinead could use that fragile, haunting, sea-siren of a voice to make us realize that this is a flipping GHOST STORY. A poor peasant woman DIES because no one is there to save her from poverty and illness, and even her GHOST doesn't get to rest, but carries on the work that defined her, that was all she had. Sinead was so incredibly young here, and already knew how to interpret a song like no one else. What an artist.

Brilliant analysis of a "simple" song. And Sinead embodies, enlivens each syllable, word and note of this ballad. And she knew it. Bel Canto - the singer becomes the essence of the song. Exhausting, like baring one's soul w/ every breath.

Richard Boudville I too have sung this song often, but Sinead missed the cadence of this song. It's a song of vibrance and life and love, then tragic death & haunting. The first half should be be sung with joy & gusto, the second half with a sense of loss, tinged with the feeling that she is not totally gone. But ultimately this is song of life, of living, not of death.
@TobiasMeinecke
8 жыл бұрын
David Keenan I'm only learning this song, but I disagree that the first part does not have life and love in it; maybe the sadness and inevitable fate is foreshadowed (no fishmonger had a happy life in those days, I suppose - pretty or not), but still - I see passion for life in the song, just a different kind of passion.
