Nobody thought her protest of Catholic Church child sex abuse was cowardice. They reacted as they were told to by authorities that is was blasphemy, because they'd rather worship some weird old Nazi man in an ornate dress than listen to the God they claim to understand. I don't think the world thought it was cowardice but rather the world (not the world but the media and those reading/viewing the media at the time) just didn't know how to deal with it. I can't imagine the outcry/negativity and hatred if that SNL episode happened in the day of social media without any context. At the end of the day, her voice and music should be her legacy, not any perceived controversial actions. One of the best voices ever.

@@JTHBS She has not lost her mind. How shallow of you to say that. She suffers from depression related to PTSD from being severely abused as a child from her mother. It has come to a head for her the past few years after decades of keeping it bottled up. She improved after you wrote this but she has slipped backwards a bit recently after a dear friend of hers passed away. She is now, finally, getting the emotional help she has so greatly needed. The brilliance of making a song about England's brutal oppression of Ireland ("your rage is like a fist in my womb"), and the hope for peace and dialogue ("Oh let glorious love be done"), be in the form of a song about a man and a woman. "She criticised child abuse within the Church but did not have the guts to name the homosexual fifth column within the clergy as the perps." " criticised" what did you expect her to do to stay silent about the abuse, btw it's never been just the abuse of boys, it's child sex abuse it wasn't committed only by homosexuals, girls were molested by the Clergy as well. You talk as though you think rape is sex, it's violence. She believed in religion inculcated into it by family, maybe you don't know that the 3 abrahamic religions all stem from one, it does and one who think they're better than the other two, a myth they created, she believed so she sought peace in the wrong place, religion. Often people like Sinead are not understood the depth of her passion continually tormented her . .Sometimes your passion runs so deep you continually struggle .She probably never realized the impact she made on others .I’m sure many times she felt very alone .

Well said. Her empathy and emotional depth made her a great singer, but also made her very vulnerable. The curse of the great artists, I think.

I remember being in Cork at Christmas so alone and listening to this and all her music. My mam brought lion and the cobra tape for us .. ...males are appreciated and reverend so much better...even though all their addictions and ways. Sweet dreams Sineád.

Maybe do not seek to reduce her. She is always kind. A little louder when her or her children's needs are neglected by others. Survival, protection frustration maybe , obviously understandably . Understanding, not judging. Pls try, for her, others... and yourself xx
