They literally show the slow motion scene with the slow motion sounds right before that... Ebert definitely had his popcorn spiked.

Rocketeer is amazing, easily a 9/10 even today. Most of the effects hold up, the plot and stakes are fast and exciting, all of the performances are good, even tho yes Jennifer Connelly and the villain outshine the two heroic leads. Everyone I see decrying it in the comments haven't even seen it. Go watch it on Disney Plus.

I use to hate the promos for The Rocketeer as a teen (Piazza Hut cups) but after rewatching years on DVD i loved the movie it's innocent fun. It has a Indiana Jones feel without trying to be like Indiana Jones. Joe Johnston having worked under Spielberg & Lucas with Raiders & The empire strikes back/Jurassic Park III . You can see the similar style

Roger Ebert was too busy writing his review while he was watching The Rocketeer that he missed so many details. He loved picking apart the Atlantic flight of the rocket for example that he didn’t stop to think the cartoon was supposed to be symbolic propaganda. Their soldiers would be equipped with flight and they’d be able to conquer Europe easily with an advantage.

The score for the Rocketeer was as great as anything by John Williams. In fact, if it were a Williams score, it would probably be on most of those best of compilations. I can’t help but dislike Ebert when I watch this review because I know that if it were the same exact film but credited to Spielberg, he would have raved about how Spielberg did it again and captured the spirit of wonder from classics like ET.

I agree with Ebert's review. The Rocketeer is a fun entertainment but it lacks the polish of a good cinematic storytelling. This is very much a serial condensed to feature length instead of a film that's influenced by those serials.

So all they talked about on Robin Hood was the Costner problem? Why didn't they say anything on Alan Rickman, Morgan Freeman, or Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio? There was more to discuss about the movie than just letting the storm surrounding Costner stick out like a sore thumb. What a narrow review.

I think she was definitely hot. Maybe not deserving of "America's Sweetheart" for 5 years+, but definitely very attractive. Red head + good actor + charismatic personality will get any actress a long ways. I always thought Nicole Kidman deserved more fame, she is smoking as a red head and a better, more severe actress.
