Not sure if Siskel even watched this, the plot summary is just way off (the scene with the photographer is just that - one scene) and the analysis is as shallow as can be. Good thing Ebert knew his stuff.

I disagree!! I think Red is the best!! Sooo mysterious and beautiful! Why don't critics ever discuss the aesthetics of films? Especially masterpieces like this! The mood of the whole film is transcendent. The music is incredible. The light! The extraordinary editing. I was in a trance after seeing it. Which rarely happens.

I saw this in the theater when I was 18, and I cried at the end. I don’t even think I knew why I was crying. It’s not a traditionally sentimental movie, not like something Spielberg would make. I think I was just overcome by the beauty of it, by the realization that I had witnessed a true work of art for one of the first times in my life.

I remarried in 2015, now with three kids. Every day is a gift. Sorry to hear about the panic attack. I'm sure your newly painted room looks great :)

Great review, however American reviewers typically seem to miss the whole allegory for the unification of Europe, and the presence of some kind of unseen power overseeing the characters' destinies. This movie was made at the moment of the emergence of the EU. The two lead characters can be read as personifications of different generations of Europe, while Blue frequently refers to music celebrating unification. Red - as with La Double Vie and Decalogue - is a constant observation of parallel moments being governed by an ambiguous sense of order.

Not slow at all, just unfulfilling. Trigaunant is great as always as the embittered judge, but Jacob is just too damn sweet, so much so she becomes infuriating. I love the mirroring between the two sets of characters, the Judge and the woman, and the law student and his girlfriend. But overall it just doesn’t do it for me. Blue is the best followed by White and then Red.

Because White has realatable characters and great themes, while Red is dry, boring, devoid of interesting themes and shitty wooden characters. I will admit Red is sligtly better directed than White.

Sorry, I hate this film. The story is so lazy and dry. I like the themes, but the themes are prersented in such a dry and lazy way; nothing is explored. Both White and Blue explored the themes in an interesting way, but not Red. Not to mention the characters are so inconsistent, and clitched; I know its an art film, and therefore there is not that big a focus on the characters, buit come on, there is no excuse for them to be this bad!!!!
