Namaskaaram! 🙏 As a 70 year old doctor of medicine, now retired, I have two important comments if I may. I have restarted Yoga after 30 years of not practicing it regularly. Those were the days, when Ashtânga Yoga became fashionable and I practiced it without proper supervision, and hurt myself including a shoulder and thigh muscle injury, and back pain. My bad! Anyhow, here are my comments: 1. I never do Yoga now without a proper warm-up. I walk around my house three times, then I do a few minutes of a warm-up routine, including swinging the legs forward and back gently, one at a time. COLD MUSCLES DO NOT STRETCH: THEY TEAR. 2. The Surya Namaskar is always my LAST ROUTINE OF MY YOGA PRACTICE. The Standing Forward Bend, Uthânâsana, (some people call it the Pâdahasthâsana, or hands to feet pose; pâda is feet, and hastha, hands) which is the third step of the routine, can hurt the back if you forcefully keep the knees straight. THE KNEES MUST BE BENT AS MUCH AS IS NEEDED FOR EACH PERSON.

I'm in love with this channel my grandmother is a yoga teacher she teaches me and my sister yoga daily 1 hour so she tells me to learn yoga from this channel she told me she also learned yoga from this channel . This is a wonderful video class! I have been following daily for a few months and it has made a tremendous difference physically and mentally. The instructor is amazing!! His each word and even the gaps between words are perfectly timed to guide you along. Over time, instead of getting bored of the same routine I started deriving even greater joy each time. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

I really love this practice. But I guess I am even more of a beginner than your beginner’s class. I cannot do the inverted pose or the twist. Can you advise modifications? Also, where can I learn the opening chant? Thank you very much 🙏🏻

Hello, as you practice slowly, the body will start to cooperate and you will be able to do those postures. Till then, instead of the shoulderstand (inverted posture), you can simply keep your legs up (hips still on the mat) and hold your thighs. This will help the legs to relax and give you similar benefits. For the Spinal twist, instead of folding both legs, you can try this - both legs straight, bend the left leg and keep the foot next to the right calf muscle, left hand on the mat behind you. With the right hand hold the left knee and look over the left shoulder. (same thing on the other side). This is easier than what is done in the video. Hope this is helpful. Great video with very useful advice for each posture! I have a small question: is there a reason why some of the postures are not in this video (the headstand, the locust, the crow, the peacock, etc.) I only ask because Sivananda yoga more or less uses a fixed sequence of asanas i.e.: always the same postures in the same order, like Bikram and Ashtanga yoga do. I'm just curious. :- )

Thank you for practicing. The 90 mins class, which is the standard Sivananda Class has all the postures. In this video, we edited those postures to reduce to 60 mins. However, all other 60 mins classes on our channel have the complete sequence. Om Shanti

@@preethampooserla3933 thank you for asking. Yes, beginners can definately take the YTT (Yoga Teacher Training) at any Sivananda Centre across Canada, USA and India. It is a very intensive one month training in traditional Hatha and is much more than just learning about postures (Asanas). Breathing (pranayama), Philosophy, Meditation, Chanting and learning what the chants represent are only a small portion of the education you receive at the Ashram. It is an amazing opportunity for each individual to grow mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. I had been taking and studying yoga for 10 years prior to deciding to go to the Sivananda for training to become a yoga teacher, which is what I have been doing for the past seven years, and honestly, although intense, it was incredibly informative, thorough and enlightening!

These are not pranayama but Kriyas. And Kriyas which are meant for purification are always done before the asana practice (I think according to Hatha Yoga Pradapika and many more ancient texts)
