@@sreetips I'd tend fairly heavily towards calling that "Functioning precisely as designed" - You somehow, in a way I can't elucidate, give me the impression you think that the fuse popping is a bug. I see it as a feature. Makes a cheap-n-easy ""Pop-up-timer", just like in a butterball turkey! :) Even cheaper if you put an equivalent value breaker (and for full-strength "belt-n-suspenders", DON'T delete the fuse - keep it in-circuit) and just use it as an "auto-stop" switch. If the breaker's popped, "Oh - looks like I need to treat it just like a house breaker: Fix the short and turn the breaker back on." Stirring the silver equals fixing the short, and anybody can follow from there . Nice to see a design operate so perfectly. 👍👍

Sreetips: some rosebud tricks... It's pretty common to get the scary "pop backs" with the rosebud. I use them all the time in auto repairs. Here's a few things you can do... When using it, swing your regular torch aside momentarily... Rosebuds work great but as you see the tip is prone to overheating and causing backfires... You could also try reducing the amount of acetylene and oxy. With a regular cutting torch you wanna turn up the acetylene until it stops black smoking then start adding oxygen. With a rosebud, that's waaayyy too much fuel unless you're only going to use it for short time. Last, try to keep a bit more distance between the crucible and the rosebud. I love your vids, I'm looking forward to the day I might be able to start doing this.

You might save a fuse or two by placing a piece of glass or plastic on top of the crystals under the basket to prevent contact.
@PrometheusZandski

Good thing you had that fuse, much easier to replace than all that silver. I was thinking that you could build a plastic screen you stretch across a hoop that will fit the bowl. That would stop the crystals from the bottom growing up and making contact. It would not stop crystals from the side, but that doesn't look like a problem. If you replace your other smaller cell, then you will be burning through a lot of silver. Those two buckets could be used up in months. You may have to go back to using your big crucible and the outdoor smelter to keep up with the demand. Good problems to have.

Watching this it gave me an idea for a new silver cell that it would be far easier to get the plates out of and to clean up. It could even handle a much larger quantity of silver using stainless plates submerged in the solution rather than the bowl. If you put two plates back to back with a plastic clip holding them together, when cleaning them off you could simply lay it flat in a pan and scrape it that way and not be fighting the curvature of the bowl. This would also keep you from having to lift it to drain it out and reduce spilling etc.

If I may make a suggestion, could the electrolite be drained through a vacuum? A bit like when you sometimes remove the liquid from refined gold. This way, no heavy bowl lifting, no risk of splahing chemicals. You drain it as much as you can with the tube and you end up with only like a liter left + silver to manipulate. Also you might want to consider a devil forge to melt bigger amount of silver at once. Those things are very effective.

I love your videos . I was wondering the percent of recovery ? that is to ask if you use say 15oz just for the sake of example to inquart the gold which is in solution, after running it thru the silver cell. Do you recover 15oz for 100% recovery 85% ...120% ?

Entropy guarantees that I’ll never get 100% - for every 100g of impure silver, I’ll harvest about 98g of pure silver crystal. But I’ve never taken the time to measure it. Because measuring is not necessary. I’ve got all this silver from my gold refining. Its purity and therefore value is questionable in powder form. So it’s got to go through the silver cell no matter what. The good news is; I get to keep it all.

Where do you get this material to put into the silver cell and what is it exactly? Looks cool and fun!

it is silver, from spoons, forks dishes and other second hand stuff he buys very cheap he has made many videos showing how to dissolve the silver in the solution, i invite you to go and check older videos, last week iirc he made some

I refine gold. I use sterling silver, that I buy at estate sales, to refine the scrap gold. I recover the silver from that, melt into shot, and run it through my silver cell. The cell converts the impure silver (about 980 parts per thousand silver) to high purity four nines fine (9999 parts per ten thousand) pure elemental silver metal. The impure silver is added to the anode basket. The anode basket is suspended in the silver nitrate electrolyte. I pass an electric current through the impure silver. The silver dissolves, passes through the Dacron filter, travels through the silver nitrate electrolyte, and deposits on the stainless steel bowl (the cathode). The bowl is connected to the negative pole of the power supply. The process only deposits pure silver on the cathode. So I’m refining the impure silver, into high purity silver. When it’s full, I harvest the pure silver crystal, put it away and forget about it. Then I repeat the whole thing again.

Idk why I started giggling 6.25 after seeing you clean the silver bars with a toothbrush. You are very efficient lol. Go get'em tiger. It's like me. I notice how you go over the same understanding to develop richer truths. Then the little things just top it off with cute character lol.

For draining the big silver cell, have you tried siphoning the liquid out? it might make the first rinse or two a bit easier, as well.

Also, for the last part of getting the last dregs of silver out of the bowl, instead of all the rinses with water, maybe sweep most of them out with a silicone spatula. Just a thought. Stay awesome, man. I love the videos.

I have not. But I did make the same mistake with the smaller cells. To remedy all I have to do is hold the bowl closer to center of the top of the beaker. I’ll demonstrate it in the next harvest.

I'm assuming the fuse blows quickly enough to prevent any contamination happening. Safety first, of course, but it would be interesting to see you purposely blow a fuse this way only on camera so we can see it happening. Perhaps with one of the smaller ag cells.

platinum is something he recovers like each couple of months in the order of grams, same with palladium, not enough material to do this process

I'm sure you've considered a larger stainless steel stock pot, say 10qts or so, with a deeper bottom? The wider opening might allow for a good sized Rubber-Made-style basket? Can't go too big or deep, but maybe wider? Of course the yield might be too cumbersome, though...🤔

My silver cement blows all over and my MAP gas torch can't melt it. I think I am going to use an electric furnace to melt back to shot.

Michael, that's what I do, electric furnace with a 3 kilo crucible. I have pushed it and poured a 100 toz. Silver bar😅

Looks like the new cell makes double the silver for the same electricity costs as the smaller one... Great work my friend..👍

Hey sreetips, would melted sterling silver work as the impure silver shot used in the anode basket? I have no cement silver but I have lots of sterling and would love to set up a silver cell.

Yes, but it’s not recommended because the electrolyte will quickly become saturated with copper.
