I seem to remember you use the electrolyte twice before cementing out the silver and making impure shot from it. So the two harvests must be much more than what you dissolved for making fresh electrolyte. Otherwise you would be running in circles. Can you give a rough ratio of silver in the electrolyte compared to total harvest? Thanks and keep up the great work Peter
@sreetips
2 ай бұрын
No data for the six liter cell yet. But for the small cell it went something like this; I use about 800g of pure silver and get two runs on the cell. I harvest about 1.5 kilos of pure silver crystal per run. I gain (3000g minus 800g equals 2200g) 2.2 kilos of pure silver. I harvest the pure silver crystal, put it away, and forget about it. And please remember, the 800g used for the electrolyte doesn’t get consumed, it’s still there, and I I’ll get all of that back when I cement it out on copper. Hope this helps.
@Baumscheibenkunst
2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the reply. I am aware that no silver is consumed. I was wondering how much more pure silver you get compared to what you need to start the cell. Not sure how cell size will affect the numbers, but you seem to get about four times as much as you put in which is a pretty efficient process. Now all you need to do is make sure you collect enough silver scrap to keep the three cells running. I know ist's irrelevant for the total cost but I'm curious: is there any difference in electrical efficiency between the small and the large cell? Thanks again for taking the time to answer. Peter

I get my silver from local sales. I refine gold. I use sterling silver, that I buy at estate sales, to refine the scrap gold. I recover the silver from that, melt into shot, and run it through my silver cell. The cell converts the impure silver (about 980 parts per thousand silver) to high purity four nines fine (9999 parts per ten thousand) pure elemental silver metal. The impure silver is added to the anode basket. The anode basket is suspended in the silver nitrate electrolyte. I pass an electric current through the impure silver. The silver dissolves, passes through the Dacron filter, travels through the silver nitrate electrolyte, and deposits on the stainless steel bowl (the cathode). The bowl is connected to the negative pole of the power supply. The process only deposits pure silver on the cathode. So I’m refining the impure silver, into high purity silver. When it’s full, I harvest the pure silver crystal, put it away and forget about it. Then I repeat the whole thing again.

probably far too much spillage/silver passing through the mesh, sreetips has a large vacuum filter funnel why not use that to collect the rinsed off solution? less distilled water overall used and it would lead to better collection of the silver crystal into the filter paper, as small flakes that you see floating on the surface will not be poured off!

At this point I can't see how you've got time for anything! You have gold and silver you've purified, And all the waste and byproducts to process and handle: it's hard to even keep track!

Sometimes I walk out into my shop and feel overwhelmed. I turn, go back in, and make some lunch and watch a movie. But I’m thankful that I can even do that.

I’m thankful for what has been granted to me. It’s like gorging on really good food. At first it’s delightful, but then it gets old and doesn’t taste as good as it used to. But I’m not complaining. I just keep cranking it (silver) out, and filling my treasury (savings) with pure silver for the day, that is coming, where I won’t be able to do this anymore.

It’s ok, don’t be alarmed, I have it that way because I don’t really want to sell any of my silver right now. But even at that price, it keeps selling. I might have to raise it some more. Thank you.

Im not being greedy. Im trying desperately to keep my silver because I don’t really want to sell any of it. Thats why I have it priced like that. But it just keeps selling. So I must have it too low. Whenever someone gets in a twist over the ask price I have on the silver, I go in and raise another dollar to see if I can stem the flow. I’m not selling any of it because the spot price so grossly undervalued. I hope you understand. If I keep getting flack then I’ll just take it down. But I figure there are some who don’t mind supporting my channel, instead of a donation, they can get something in return.
