Did you have to do any welding at all, or was all of the fabrication on the purchaser's end essentially fiberglass based? I'm definitely spiraling down the rabbit hole of researching an SL-C build of my own. Thanks for all of the great information.
@GearheadDaily

You could do some aluminum welding in places for brackets if you want, but its not necessary. I did weld a bracket for the rear wing and for the exhaust. I suppose that's the only real "thing" you need to make; the exhaust.

I am in the same hole... from what i am gathering this is why the SLC is a bit superior to the other kits is that this car is mostly "assembling" as to why the initial cost is a bit more then the competitors. NOTE: "Inital" ... it appears like most kit cars once finished all fall about in the same price range... although people are more prone to the slow bleed in their bank account then getting crushed in one big hit.... i can speak from experience haha

LOL I get that. To me, the body panels were a lot nice than say the GTM. They fit better and require minimal amounts of massaging to get to fit well.

My experience with loan acquisition at my credit union was surprisingly smooth. I think that I was lucky that the right guy helped me at the right time. Had to give titles on a couple Harleys and a corvette as collateral. Split loan 3 ways. Paid 1 at a time. Received title for each as they were paid.

Sorry to ask so late, i was kinda thinking to make a SL-C with the S85 V10 (E60 M5/ E63 M6) and a Grazziano 6 speed transmission, which has it turns out someone already did, so thats not my main question. Seing from a pictures of the chassis theres a central tunel in the center of the cabin, would it be posible to relocate that central tunel to two equally distanced tunnels from the center of the cabin and put a seat in the middle, basically to recreate the Mclaren F1 interior except the two side seats, so a single seater SL-C and have the space left over for switches and storage, my objective would be a 80% track car and a 20% road car. Or am i just thinking of crazy stuff. Love the ear your opinion.

You should check out the thunderhill 25hr car, they didn't something similar, but the center hump is a structural piece. You can always talk to Fran at RCR to see what he can do.

In your opinion does it make any sense with this vehicle to have more than 500 or so horsepower? I've seen some that make over a 1000 and that seems like it could be way Overkill for this car. My daily driver has 800 wheel HP but like in your video you say this car has aero grip and is so freaking light I'm sure it's quite a different experience.

I'm really heartbroken. I've been looking into the SLC for so long and thought the car was nearly bullet proof. I couldn't wait to build one of my own, but I recently saw a video of an SLC running at high speeds only to show that the doors actually lift up due to the air speed and/or pressure. It's a shame that the SLC owners don't really give a heads up on the design flaws such as this. I was always wondering if there was more to your motive for selling the SLC. I know you mentioned that the car was "too crazy" even for you, but couldn't help but think that maybe you sold it due to the door flaw, or any other issues of that caliber that haven't been surfaced. Did you experience any other weird problems with the car that most SLC owners won't talk about?

how is the cost to maintain the car, i understand the motor is just an ls for most which is pretty bullet proof as long as you dont go crazy and check the oil. Things like clutch, brakes( for such a light car i would think they last a while), transmission lifecycle. for being such a light car i would like to think the wear would lead to minimal wear on parts if not completely abused. And what about replacement parts for the car such as suspension parts that are made by superlite, i understand they are billet components so they wont be cheap but are they crazy expensive? as a background i have 7 years of motorsports engineering specializing in powertrains and have had substantially faster track cars each time. been looking on a good car for 1/2 mile, autocross, and race tracks as barber motorsports park is a short drive away. and what about other parts that need to be fabricated as i can do composite work but i am a horrible welder. i would assume most parts needing to be fabricated would be small brackets which are more or less bent to shape. sorry if i started rambling just trying to figure out more on this as there isnt much on the internet about them

also they say it fits drivers up to 6'4" which i am and does it allow enough room for a helment.
@GearheadDaily
4 жыл бұрын
I'm 6'1 and I was able to use a helmet but remember, this is a street 'race car'. So, ya it will be tight but i've seen tall guys get in it. Just like any race car, wear and tear all depends on how you drive it. There are a few factory upgrades like ball joints and brakes and steering but the basic kit should last quite a while. The fuel setup requires a fair amount of cooling because of the compact design. As per the fab part of things, there a lot of little brackets that need to be made and ya most can be TIG welded or modified to work.

@@GearheadDaily sounds good, I also have a TA car we run and an ultra4. We go crazy on all of our builds and doing the norm isn't for us. Last build was a custom single seater( mclaren f1 style) with a lamborghini v12 with twin turbos as he crashed his UGR lambo and wanted something a little faster on the track. Done crazy builds and my satisfaction is the whole build process as buying a car just isn't fun for me, also fun as I have access to an old runway so I have plenty of room to stretch the legs of almost any car.
