I really like the treating your bed like a temple but sadly it can’t be my reality until I get my license. I use my room to do homework and I do it on my bed since I don’t have enough room for a desk. Once I get my license I’ll be able to go to the library to do homework or a coffee shop.

A few weeks ago I started to go to sleep at the same hour every day (22:00) and I would wake up without alarm around 06 am and sometimes earlier. It’s the best! In order to fall asleep at 22:00, I do a bedtime routine starting at 21;00: brain dump, sort out to-dos, look at my schedule, journal (not on the laptop), then take a bath to raise the temperature of the body and then meditate. I also don’t look at my screen after I did my schedule for tomorrow, so after ca 21:15. And I feel like all of this creates a perfect sleep for me

I can absolutely confirm that lavender helps. When I was pregnant I found it impossible to sleep for longer periods of time and I was exhausted. So I decided to give lavender essential oil a go, even though I really wasn’t convinced. I put a couple of drops on my pillow and I slept for 10 hours straight, instead of the usual 2 hour spurts. I was really shocked at how well it worked.

Just wanted to add for anyone who might see this, talk to a doctor before using any essential oils/herbs etc as there is a chance some of them can cause issues in the pregnancy. It's a small chance but always best to be on the safe side.

4:47 - you can also make your screen even darker than what the normal brightness level goes by going to settings< accessibility< display and text size< and scrolling down to the “reduce white point” slider. You can adjust it to the darkness level you would like making the light less intense. You can also go right above that to color filters which is a really cool feature. You can see how things might look for someone who has different forms of colorblind blindness but apart from that you can make the tint of your screen more intense/red. Click on it and turn color filters on the very bottom option says color tint and you can control how you want it. I would also recommend looking at the different color blindness feature though too it’s very interesting.

This was a helpful video. I'm going to have to apply a few more of these tips. I constantly feel like I'm waking up even more tired than I was before I went to sleep. I've started journaling and reading a real book right before I go to sleep, which I feel has been clearing my mind. For me, though, I think I have a lot of stress and anxiety from work that's preventing me from truly sleeping well :/

I've found journaling and doing a plan for the next day really helps me stop worrying about all the things I need to do while I'm trying to sleep. Stress and anxiety are the main thing that stops me sleeping too. Also, I bought some Bluetooth headphones on a fabric band so they're comfortable to lie on, and use an app called pzizz (there's loads of sleep and meditation apps but that one has been great) and it really helps when I'm going through a period of insomnia. Helps my mind to focus on sleep, not all my other worries.

Re: essential oils because it's important! They are not safe for pets at all (breathing, not just ingesting - the molecular composition can't be processed by animals and will cause a toxin build up). They're also resource intensive - 50 lemons creates a 15ml bottle of lemon essential oil. The compounds are "essentialized". Consider buying lavender springs, eucalyptus, roses, fresh lemons etc. and keeping that by your bed for the same effect minus the intensity of scent. If you do use them, don't let them go to the water supply - don't put them in baths, wash with them or do laundry with them (including putting a drop or two on clothing, then washing). Fishy health is important and water processing facilities can't filter essential oils out. Unless there's solid gvnt regulation where you are, it's possible that MLMs may be producing them and there's often no transparency if it really is an essential oil, where their resources come from etc. even from the ones sold in stores. I appreciate you being a little tentative on essential oils and I don't *not* believe in their benefits for people, but I think the environmental impact is important, especially for anyone into wellness - our earth's wellness is our own and grounded products/practices often feel better to our nervous systems anyways. Scent therapy can be achieved in other ways (herbal oil infusions, fresh produce, etc) and I highly discourage people from using essential oils - our nervous systems take in more altered chemical compounds daily than humans ever have (through skin, breathing, etc), and this is one more non-essential (hehe) form of that. That was a side note on an incredible video (thank you for putting that all into one succinct video). Love, a muchelleb fan and a passionate friend to fishies.

it depends for me - to a degree (heh) it does help when it's a bit colder, but my feet tend to be freezing (basically at all times) and if it's bad then that can really keep me from falling asleep cos it's so distracting and uncomfortable. So balance seems to be the way to go. Be at a comfortable, not too hot (leaning towards fresher) temperature overall - but don't be freezing. In my case, that often means wearing (woolly) socks in bed ^^

Hey Muchelleb! I really wan't to get my sleep routines sorted out, but I'm having trouble with keeping a consistent sleep time through the whole week - that is to continue going to sleep and waking up early on weekends. How bad is it to have a consistent sleep time on the weekdays but sleep a little longer on the weekends? I don't think Its realistic for me to get up at 5AM on the weekends and going to bed at 9-10PM, as I like to be social on the weekends and not stressing about following my daily routines.

What is (and is not) in the video that was really helpful for me : - *Don't do anything in your bed except sleeping and reading (and... you know)*. If you're thinking too much, just go out of bed for 10/15 minutes, and come back after. Repeat as much as needed, so that you don't associate bed with thinking. Really work, when you have the courage to do it. - Making your room as dark as possible - Taking a shower before bed (and that way you don't have to change the sheets so much too) - Getting enough sleep, but this one seems obvious Thanks muchelleb for all the tips, really actionable, I like that !

I think a five part series would be awesome, sleep is so important and especially for YT creators the over-work and stressful pressure of "hard working" that goes into basically hindering long term safety and productivity is almost promoted and validated by society often as the only way to succeed or be in a "valid career". Plus multi part series' are in right now! haha

☹ Yes, essential oils can harm sensitive people. Cause migraines & sickness, lung irritation, miscarriages, seizures, chronic fatigue etc. Even flowers such as lillies & lilacs can cause migraines & nausea. Like a severe hangover. Same as perfume. Sometimes people don't know what is causing them to be unwell.. but sleeping in a room with fragrances is not healthy.

They start dimming at 10 pm and are out by 10:30 pm to remind me to go to sleep and slowly get brighter between 6 and 6:30 am making it impossible for me to snooze. I've struggled with having a good sleep routine in the last couple of years, and this is the most helpful thing I've done!
