I was flying my Sonex into Kyneton Airfield for their Cancer Council Biggest Morning Tea when I realized I was too high. I knew I needed to lose altitude quickly, so I sidesliped the aircraft. Sideslipping is a technique where you bank the aircraft slightly and apply rudder opposite to the direction of the bank. This causes the aircraft to lose altitude without gaining airspeed.
I sidesliped the aircraft until I was at the desired altitude, and then I straightened it out and landed safely on the runway. It was a close call, but I was able to save the landing.
