How did you go left to go right? I was expecting a 270 roll to the left. Nice plane though.

nice video but I have to say your mag switches are an engine failure waiting to happen. If you hit those guards down won't that kill your mags? Thats the way they usually work.

Yes they are definitely not a good design. They are on the list of upgrades but I should probably bump them up to the top of the priority list.

I have recently bought a Sonex/2200 Camit/tricycle ... was VH-BST now 19-2188. I also found as you did that doing more than 90kts a vibration sets in. I couldn't identify if it was engine vibration or aerodynamics. Do you have any more info on your findings. Thanks ... Peter

Thanks! Yeah I've been flying pretty consistently but life and lacking an audio cable is getting in the way of making videos. I aim to start making some more soon 🤞

It's a tailwheel Sonex with Jabiru 2200 80hp engine. As for the instruments, that's an iPad mini 5 on the left, an ASI and a slip indicator next, the EFIS is a Horizon XL which is pretty old but it still does the job. On the right there is a Trig TY91 radio and a TT21 ADSB out transponder. It could be worth doing a video with a walk around of my particular sonex.

Hi what app are you using for navigation
@efficientflying8209

It's called Ozrunways, it's an Australian centric EFB app. Foreflight and Garmin pilot don't work as nicely for VFR flying as the locally made products.

Here is a later one. By relaxing and feeling how coordinated you are by what your body does, you end up with a nice straight ahead stall. kzitem.info/news/bejne/oqyjx5iEkqWmg5wsi=1GeIzxVceu0I-sxJ

Well done. "That's not going on KZitem" - classic. Our Waiex is pretty forgiving in stalls and will definitely drop a wing if uncoordinated. Problem with the sloped instrument panel is I think it can mess with that ball - we found that if you stall with the ball absolutely in the center it takes a lot of right pedal, and it will drop off to the right. Try doing stalls by feel or adjusting where the rudder/ball is until it stalls straight. And - I've had worse landings in our Waiex, as well as better ones. Lots of pattern work, stalls etc on my son's channel, here is one video of stalls: kzitem.info/news/bejne/mZqZnJl_qml_ZKgsi=tRwrxm-QbKO6iZ90

Thanks! There is always room to improve. I think it will be worth mastering flapless landings for when it's gusty.
@bryancotton7279

@@efficientflying8209 What works for me in the Waiex is to do a full stall landing, tailwheel first and with partial or full flaps when it is gusty. That way when the mains are down it is done flying and your speeds are slow. I think the Waiex has less rudder authority than a straight tail Sonex and using the tailwheel as part of your takeoff and landing strategy is a helpful thing.

Ever figure out why you're getting vibration at full power climb? Could it be getting to lean ? Aeroinjector carb?
@efficientflying8209
Жыл бұрын
It's a Bing carb, and we're still troubleshooting but from my most recent testing, in cruise cyl 1-3 have EGTs around 550c and cyl 4 is about 500c. With a full power climb 1-3 stay pretty consistent and cyl 4 bogs down to the low 400s. Step one is a smaller main jet, then the trial and error will begin. Thanks for watching :)

@@efficientflying8209It's been a few months. Did you sort out the engine issue?
@efficientflying8209
5 ай бұрын
Yes and no. It's definitely a result of airflow through the carb. New jets brought cruise EGTs up to about 600c which is still low but the plus and exhaust look good so I haven't changed it again recently. We have tweaked the position of the carb and have it where I can go WOT long enough to get off the ground and climbing, then I need to back off a little bit for a sustained climb. The cobra head with a vertical vane as offered by the Jabiru factory may help but I haven't pursued that yet.
