It’s actually an entire country, not just a city.

There is ALOT more to Slovenian cuisine the video does not do it justice. High-class dining does not come close to that more local cuisine. Every part of the country has amazing and different food. Some are even city-specific and made with recipes that are 500 years old or even more. The costal area has more Mediterranean flavors, while central Slovenia can focus more on meat, potato, and all kinds of rye. We also have so much rye that is specific to our nation and can taste amazing (Ajda or in latin Fagopyrum). We have so much authentic species of all kinds of potatos, apples, pears, random fruit you never heard of (žižule, nešpole, kakiji,...) that can also be used in cooking. Some are fucking mindblowing like an Idrian soup called Zeljševka? Zilševka? I know these foods only because they are local where I or my family lived - but I know for a fact almost every part has its own hidden gems I never tried. Never eat in a high class restaurant - always look for the local smaller or farm tourism. Anyone needing info can write me I will offer a lot of nice restaurants in the coastal area since I kinda work in tourism. You don't need to pay 200€ for a plate of microscopic food. And as someone who has family from Italy and is living near the border - our food (Slovenian) is miles and miles ahead of Italy and Croatia. Bosnian could come close but nah still Slovenia > all. I am gonna name a few if anyone is interested: žlikrofi, kremšnita, potica, ombolo come to mind for example. Much better than everything in this video. (my opinion). Even the vino and liqueur are different every 50km you travel in Slovenia. Funny story also - my great-grandmother went to Trieste (Italy) on a weekly basis where she sold her SLOVENIAN homemade pasta (from specific slovenian strains of rye), Slovenian bread (also made from a lot of local rye that is found only here), Slovenian specific cusine like rabbit broth, whole rabbits, all kinds of chickens, livertatar,.... I still have family that sells food like Žlikrofi and Tartufi (black and white), cold-pressed homemade olive oil.

@gregjucey We have just followed the official definition en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southeast_Europe - But you are right, there are numerous other definitions and viewpoints. Lep pozdrav Sloveniji!

@@DWFoodYour link to offical definition states that Slovenia is just sometimes included in Southeast Europe. This definition is much more accurate: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Europe

National mentality of Slovenians is very close to Austrian or German,so be careful about Southern or Eastern Europe, besides the language we have no real connection, and most of us Slovenians are kind of offended when you put us in the same basket...

I think this depends on to a person. Some more personalize with the eastern mentality, some of them, especially on the northern part with the Austrian or German culture. On the other hand, the Primorska part associates more with the Italian culture.

Hi, maybe you are offended by the bad things that happened in the past between Italy and Slovenia, and therefore you don't want to be compared with us Italians, maybe there is some resentment about the past. Greetings from southern Italy anyway.

@@alexs7189 hi alex.l've noticed your comments under quite a few videos about Slovenia and they're all going down the same path.Personally l hold no resent against Italians(although they burned down my grandfathers homested during WWll) nor do l hold it against anybody else, neither does anyone else l know,BUT it would be nice if your ltalian politicians would put the foibe and the afterwar exodus of ltalians from Yugoslavia into a context.Slovenians suffered 23 years of fascist opression, murdering, seizing property, concentration camps etc. and it was fascist ltaly that attacked Yugoslavia not the other way around,so pretending that ONLY ltalians were the victims of the war is at least hipocritical. And btw, after ltaly capitulated,a few thousand ltalian soldiers joined Yugoslavian resistance and fought the Germans with us,Also, ltalian and Slovenian communist led resistance fought together troughout the war,but later ltalians had to step back when it came to the Trieste/Trst crisis.Generally us,Slovenians are not haters, but we have a motto-we want nothing that is not ours, but we're also not giving away what rightfully belongs to us.l wish you all the best!
