Absolutely loving your channel, your editing, everything🤍 I’m also going to school to become an SLP & I love seeing videos of other women of color that are in this field because it’s not diverse at all. I currently work as a TA which helped me realize that I wanted to pursue Speech instead of teaching🌸 Wishing you all the best love! Praying for your continued success🤍

Yesss, loved the video! Do you have any tips and tricks on studying for the SPLA certification?
@ReginaFortune

In Florida I didn’t have to take a test, they just needed my transcripts. I would double check if your state actually requires that you take an exam, I know the ASHA slpa certificate wants you to take an exam but your state might be different and not require that. If you need to take the test for your state then I would use Praxis materials to study because i would assume the info would be somewhat similar!

I loved this video! I'm looking to become an slpa in Florida and I currently am getting my undergrad in NY. Did you get any training or experience in a school before this job or just jump into it? I'm a little confused on how the transition from college to working experience will go!

Hey, thanks so much! So I didn’t receive training to be an SLPA at my school. I did however work at the same school last year but as a teachers assistant… so I knew the school staff, layout, and many students so it wasn’t super overwhelming. But then again no speech therapy training, so I kind of had to just jump into it! Thankfully I got into a grad program where I can work as an SLPA and get my masters so I’ll get more training there!

Lastly, once you get into the groove of things you’re totally fine! I think shadowing your supervisor SLP will give you a pretty good foundation for your sessions. It’s not as bad as it seems.

Omg me too but when I went to apply for the license it said I needed a supervisory plan and I wasn’t sure if I would get hired anywhere knowing I don’t have a license or if I should shadow until I find the right place that would have a supervisor to sign off on my license.

I’d Check the job listings on the district website for SLPAs. Also check charter schools, I feel like people forget about those! They are always in need and time of year may be a factor too. Like schools could be hiring for next year now 😄

The supervisory plan is “a given” or assumed because as an SLPA you will have an SLP over you. I don’t remember having to send any specific documents for that when applying.

Does anyone on your Case load have Childhood Apraxia of Speech?
@ReginaFortune
3 жыл бұрын
I have one child on my caseload who has apraxia. Thankfully we also have a medical slp who treats all diagnoses, I focus on goals that directly affect academics because I am a charter slp not a medical one… I hope that makes sense.
