I used to watch Smallville with my dad. We watched the show together, almost every episode until this one. He had lost his own father a few years prior. The Jonathan Kent death episode didn't faze him. This one did, and I never understood why. He stopped watching the show after this. I continued on. I always thought we would finish it together some day. Not too long after this he was diagnosed with cancer. He fought bravely for a few years, but passed away two weeks before the Smallville finale aired. We never got to finish the show together, and it broke my heart watching this show knowing he'd never be able to see it for himself. To see Clark Kent become Superman. To see his own son, me, grow and am now expecting my first child in a few months. I look back at this scene and realize it was Clark's chance to say goodbye to his father one more time. It was my dad's wish he could've said goodbye to his father one more time. It's my wish I could say goodbye to him one more time. Always hold onto Smallville... but also always hold onto the ones you love. You never know when their journey will end and you will need to learn to go on without them.

this brought tears to my eyes. my mom passed away this past september, and she never got to finish it either. i remember when i was 5 when my parents, my brothers and i would sit down and watch smallville. after my mother passed, my dad and i watched it together along with my boyfriend. we have two episodes left, and i wish my mom couldve watched it again and saw clark become superman. it sucks losing a parent but they live on in us without us even trying.

Im so sorry for your loss. My father passed away from cancer in 2002 when I was 16. I remember watching this episode with my mom, and we couldn’t stop crying. It hit the heart for us because you feel their emotions like your own. But when I reflect, your dad is never really gone. If you know loss of a parent or anyone that has your heart, just put your hand over your own heart. Close your eyes and you’ll feel their heart beat. Be there for your child, love them with all your soul, and carry on what you learned and never stop sharing your stories about your dad to your own. All love to you who have experienced such a heavy loss…

1:37 My favorite part. I lost my Grandfather yesterday. He was a kind soul, we didn’t talk as much as you’d think but we shared moments and I miss him. At around that time stamp the memories flooded in and I broke down. I was the rock for my father (his dad) and I let it all out when Clark saw his memories with Jonathan here.

Saw this years ago when it first aired. All these years later I’ve lost a parent a few years back. I’ve lived through my own experience like that discovering home videos with similar content.

I watched this with my dad years ago. He grew up on a dairy farm, so it was always cool to see Clark's farm life with his dad. Just a month ago, my grandpa died of a heart attack. He was a hard working farmer just like Jonathon Kent. After the funeral, my dad and I watched some home videos of the family on tractors and different things. The video ended with my grandpa waving as he and his grandkids floated down the creek on the farm. My dad broke down crying. After rewatching this scene today, it reminds me of this memory. I am so grateful for the time we had with my grandpa and it makes me appreciate the time with my dad even more. Just like Lana said "It doesn't feel real." This scene is so human and such a defining moment.

Not long after my dad died, I came home to my mom watching a video she had recorded when she was on the road with my dad (he was a trucker and she went with him on quite a lot of trips) and she was recording when they were either out east or west, or down in the states (it was the early 90s at the time and my mom liked recording where they went), and at the end of the video my mom saw me standing there and I finally broke down like Clark did. Although I really broke down 3 months to the day after he died, because he died on St. Patricks Day and three months later, it was Father's Day. It was the first one he wasn't here for, and I couldn't wish him a happy father's day by email, phone call, or in person.
