Bought one for my best friend when he graduated law school and was hired by the FBI back in 1987. If I'm not mistaken, it cost around $270. An active FBI special agent I sat next to on a plane told me that was one authorized model for EDC by agents at the time. Proud to say my friend carried it until he retired last year. Just wish I'd bought one for myself.

I found it sitting in the Revolver Section that NO ONE PAYS Attention to unless YOU have Grown UP in the Revolver ERA. Needless to Say I Smiled as I asked my friend that owns the Shop to see it. Wahoo!, somebody besides me that these 60's are great guns. Just respect them, and learn to/for close order combat, never at 75 yds as in hunting large U.S. Game, deer. Elk, etc. I love mine too, but after I traded the wood grips for lime green grips, my wife took it. She is fighting non-hodgkins lymphoma. So far we are winning, as much as 1 can fight cancer. Good video, now get one out on the Ruger SP101! Oh, my mind wonders a lot. My wife loved all of the model 60 and after I put lime green grips, then I lost the 60. Lime green is the symbol color for non-hodgkins lymphoma.

From the literature I've obtained regarding this gun, +P is perfectly fine with it. I have put several hundred +P's through it with no issues whatsoever. I try to check the timing and forcing cone area fairly often and have not noticed any issues. I usually carry the .38 Special +P 125 grn Gold Dot in this gun, but I have also used the 158 grn lead hollowpoint that I believe they call the "FBI Load" with pretty good success. I tested that load on some wetpack and got pretty decent expansion.

When I was young depending on where I was going this was always my favorite weapon especially in the winter when everybody walked around with their hands in their pockets I would have my hand on a 38 ready to go when I was younger I had all kinds of weapons this is my favorite I was a tool maker gunsmith for years you can hammer nails with this all day long at a decent distance if you ever have to use one it's probably going to be within 10 or 20 ft and I believe a 38 special is a very underestimated round my favorite was a two shot 38 Special Derringer in a wallet holster it had a hole in the middle it tied the Derringer in and it was cut out just right if someone was going to rob you they ask you for your money you say here I'll give you my wallet keeping in mind the last thing I'd ever want to do is hurt anyone I hope I never have to hurt another living thing before I pass but this exact pistol was a favorite of mine when everyone else had to have the most powerful thing in the world I used to modify my own rounds you take the Smith & Wesson semi jacket at hollow points and you drill them out set it up with a stop in the center you take a center drill I think I used to use a half inch but it come down to about a quarter inch Center and I would drill down to the bottom of the hollow point my machined up a bunch of little points out of A2 tool steel and I had them heat treated just like the tip of a 308 or a rifle round and you use a drill press as a press with the right thing in the Chuck and you press them into the hollow point so they have little points sticking out not that far maybe 50 thousands past the top of the hollow point and those are the rounds that were my favorite they will go through anything I always like the 38 Special rounds my second favorite has always been wad cutters I had a friend that loaded them and reverse I don't know what you would call them a hollow point wide cutter but he used to make his own lead and t i n compound and they were pretty soft I always liked solid lead bullets the best but the semi jacket Hollow points if you really need the weapon to perform that would be it but if you want to hit something and be super accurate every time low load wad Cutters are the way to go and they punch a nice clean hole in the Target instead of leaving a ragged hole like you pushed your fingers through anyways this is a great little weapon I'd prefer it to A Smith 659 or any large capacity 9 mm although I used to keep one handy at home and I know I'm getting off subjects but I do not understand this open carry I carried that Derringer in my wallet holster for years and I never told a soul my friend used to carry a 45 and he thought I did too and I did but when I did I was carrying two weapons I used to carry my money on a clip in my front pocket until one day I took it out in a certain situation and later he said I thought you had my back I said I did he said what are you going to do shoot them with your wallet I said yes and I showed him he says how long have you had that I said for about seven or eight years I was young so I acquired one for him for Christmas one year he loved it I still have a couple of brand new wallet holsters in my Vault I think I have a great volt I don't keep one gun in it hahaha it's funny how your perspectives changed as you get older oh well sorry for the long, and getting off subject but this is a great weapon it's good in so many situations and I found more than once five shots is enough everybody always asks me what gun should I carry what's the best weapon for self-defense I told them whether it's a 22 or a 44 magnum whatever you can hit something with every time at 50 ft the size of an orange that's the gun you want to carry this is one of those guns and with the right ammo you can't beat it I found wad cutters to be the best like the other post says it only took one shot from Jack Ruby to take out Lee Harvey Oswald from one of these and I don't think not being stainless mattered

Why in God's name would anyone take off the original grips?! I own one of these and I would never replace the grips.

I would imagine that the grips didn't fit their hands quite well enough. I really enjoy the factory grips because I can get a great crush grip on them for fast DA work, but when I got a set of the Altamont Boot Grips that fill in the area between the frontstrap and the back of the trigger guard, my finger fell in the perfect place on the trigger and my shooting was much better and more controlled. I agree though, the orignal grips are magnificent.

BWC 12Minus3 thicker rubber grips fit my hand much better than the factory wood grip. My stainless model does great with rubber grips for me

I agree with ya, I love the stock grips more than any other. I love having that gap behind the trigger guard because it helps me get a higher grip on it and I don't feel pretty much any recoil. All 3 of my Smiths have this style of grips. My nickel Model 36 has fake pearl but they are the same style. I wouldn't have any gun without that style if I can help it. Even my 5 shot Taurus 357 has that style grips and I love it.

Agree 100%. Those grips don’t fit anyone the first time you grip them. You’ll learn real quick to love them. Most people will anyway.

You shouldn't dry fire that gun, as its firing-pin is on the hammer.

The official word from Smith & Wesson per the manual in the box is that it is fine to dry-fire the Model 60. Repeated dry firing without may cause some deformation of the firing pin hole, but that would be over many thousand dry fire cycles. I don't do it that much, I prefer ammunition in it when I pull the trigger =)

Alberto Jorge Soares I think a good rule of the thumb is not to dry fire any weapon.
