I wish the Woodcreek had multiple smoke settings like the pitboss grills do. The Woodcreek doesn't provide consistent smoke, just small bursts of it when new pellets are dropped in. If they sold an upgrade controller for it I'd buy it

I have just been playing around with lots of different pellets and blends over the last two weeks. The lower the temperature the more smoke output. More importantly, I feel that Apple, Cherry, Hickory and Oak kick out more white-blue smoke while Maple, Mesquite and Pecan have a thinner blue-grey smoke. Each wood has distinct flavors and aroma too. Fruit woods and maple are sweeter; hickory and oak are classic woodiness; mesquite is super strong. If you want smokiness, drop the temp down to 200-250 and play with pellets. It's cool the Woodcreek allows me to empty the hopper and use different pellets for each smoke.

It's very hard for a pellet grill to be able to provide lots of smoke and maintain a consistent cooking temperature. It's kind of like a campfire - when you throw a new log onto the fire it will smoke/smolder for a little bit, which produces less heat and more smoke, and then it catches fire, which produces more heat and less smoke. Pellets act the same way when dropping into the fire pot. You will see more smoke as the temperature starts dropping as the pellets will smother the fire and cause a lot more smoke but as the pellets ignite you will see less and less smoke. Another thing to keep in mind is that this grill has a large exhaust in the back of the hood and not a small chimney which makes it harder to see the smoke coming out. I have smoked briskets, chicken, and pork and have been able to taste the smokey flavor with each one.

@@txgriller7380 the pit boss pellet grills have multiple settings for extra smoke, in addition to the temp settings. I've seen them bellowing out constant smoke, unlike the Woodcreek. I've gotten good smoke flavor from the Woodcreek but could be more if it had the smoke settings. I'm looking at installing a Smoke Daddy on my Woodcreek

@@chefsbonus7696 did you have to do anything particular to achieve crispy chicken skin every time? Even on different cuts of chicken?

@@matthewlblair it’s hotter over the firepot. Depending on the heat, the skin naturally crisps or I’d move chicken closer to firepot or crank it up or use an insert. There’s a lot of options. Mostly, I just play around with it. Wings cook faster, whole chickens take a bit more time and technic.

Big Oso I think it’s great! I tend to use different flavored pellets for different meats and baking. So I like the pellet release in the back to switch it up.

Big Oso I have been very happy with the smoke flavor on everything I have cooked thus far. I’m going to throw another brisket on tomorrow and will post some videos of the smoke production at the lower temp settings - 200, 225, and 250. Have a great day!
