hey man do you recommend greasing the spindle before replacing the hub?
@heyguysgarage1105
3 жыл бұрын
Not really. You don’t want the bearing spinning on the spindle. The inner part of the bearing should remain fixed so the outer part of the bearing can spin freely. If the inner part spun, it could destroy the spindle.

It is a sealed bearing. You’ll have to replace the hub assembly.

Why put this video out and not grease the spindle and hub bearing?
@heyguysgarage1105
2 жыл бұрын
I don’t grease the spindle or the hub bearing. The bearing is a sealed unit with grease inside of it. The bearing part that contacts the spindle should not move because it is held by the nut. The rollers inside the bearing is what spins. You wouldn’t want metal spinning on the spindle… that would cost you a spindle. Same principle with putting oil between a rod bearing and a rod…. That’s a good way to spin a bearing…. And that’s expensive.

Tightening your hub nut more than the torque setting defies the point of using a torque wrench, lol.

@ScottRods

@@heyguysgarage1105 yeah, but you tightened it beyond torque setting, then tightened even more. You are crushing the bearing so it will wear out prematurely. Normally there is a flat area on the nut you hammer over to prevent it from unscrewing.

Next time I work on your car, I’ll get your input. I’ve been working on cars for 25 years without issue and I drive this particular 95 mustang 550 miles 1 way to work every 2 weeks. I’m here to tell you it’s doing fine. You are encouraged to come to my driveway and help do any of these videos with me at anytime. I’ll even hand you tools or hold the flashlight for ya.
