Mike, thanks for taking the time to do these vids. You do a five star job!Would you ever consider running through your most commonly used - favorite - plugs and how you employee them? I'd love to see for example your personal favorite mix-buss compressor, single channel compressors, EQs...The reason I think this would be great is not only do you do a great job of explaining a plugin - you use them very well.Thanks again for the hard work!

+Carl Westbrook Hi Carl, And give away all my secret settings? LOL! I do a lot of this in my mixing courses on the website. www.mpginsider.com Either way, there's plenty more to come so you will have to pay attention one tip at a time. Cheers! Mike

Being that this is a multiband compressor, aren't there potential problems that might occur when running several instances in series like you demonstrate here? Thanks for another great video!

+2 Tone Tony That is an excellent question. It's hard to know exactly how each process is handled without knowing what is going on under the hood. That said, I don't hear any of the phasing artifacts or loss of clarity you might expect if the multiband processing was poor. They actually recommend using it this way in the manual. Sounds damn good to me! Cheers! Mike

+2 Tone Tony This thing was specifically designed to not be able to damage the sound, what you can easily do with multi-band compressor, and this is why it has only few controls. And it was designed to be used as a multiple instances. I own this thing and it works grate.

Hi Mike! Thanks for the video, great! I am planning to buy this but needed a proffessional tutorial to be sure :-) I wonder about the place at 6:00 when you are using Neutral and the Air is On But with no Amount? Who does that work when the Amount is Off? Thanks again! Peter
@mixingwithmike

+Peter Stedt Hi Peter, The "Amount" knob is like a threshold for the multiband processing and the Air is a switch that adds high frequencies in but is not affected by the Amount. If you notice, I use the Mix control to set how much of the Air is added in. Hope this answers your questions. Cheers! Mike

This is a joke surely? the whole point of a multi-band compressor is so you can choose the frequency range of each band depending on the song, the instruments you use or even the velocity of how you play the instruments. There is no standard cut off point for each band, every song is different. I'm sure this is a good plugin for adding some quick flavour to a song, but it's not a solution to multi-band compression, it has equal chance of messing up your mix instead of making it better, depending on the recording. As i say, to add some flavour it might work on a few things. It's a con as a multi-brand compressor. There's nothing you can't do on this that you couldn't with a basic multi-band compressor plugin and maybe a bit of EQ and you would have much more control of each band, y'know, that's the point of multi-band compression..control. This does not offer that.

+Lenny Henry Hi Lenny, The idea of the plugin was not to give you full multi-band control but to give you multi-band functionality by offering preset starting points that are configured according to specific needs. IMO most people don't even know how to use full band compression, never mind multi-band. The point is that you get a great sound in the end, not that you have control over every parameter. It would be nice to see the extra control, maybe they will release a multiband version like the original hardware. Cheers! Mike

Why don´t you use some real music for this otherwise brilliant review. These loops - that is horrible.
