My older sister lived in Seoul from 2007-2017 and I would visit her for a month every year. I did a lot of solo traveling around Korea, and as daunting as it was at first, I can say those were definitely some of the best experiences.

I really love the videos you did in collaboration with the tourism organization. While showing us glimpses of the cities and souvenir options I still feel that you really showed us the places and things you actually enjoy, and I love to see that. Your videos usually make me miss Korea quite a bit. I did an internship for 6 months there a couple years back and that was also the time I solo travelled a lot. Usually I used the weekends to visit different cities in Korea, trying to make the most of it, as my time was limited there. Also joined group trips though and made friends on the way. Currently I hope to visit Copenhagen and Milan soon, but somehow I am a bit hesitant to go alone now ha ha Maybe I just considered Korea more safe or I was more reckless when I was younger, who knows. Wishing you lots of luck and success for your family journey as well. I can't wait for you to drop on us that a mini Sissel-Jake is on the way ❤

Love your travels and am so glad you did this collab with the tourism organisation. I also really love that you can speak Korean. It irks me a little how many English speaking influencers who are abroad haven’t bothered to learn the language of the country they live in, even though some of them have been vlogging from abroad longer than you’ve been in Korea. It shows a lot of respect for the people and the culture and wanting to understand where you live. Also - best of luck with your family goals. I know how all consuming the effort to conceive can be when you’re struggling to start your family and how frustrating it can be when it’s not happening and others seem to get it effortlessly (or by accident). You deserve all the happiness ❤️

Solo travelling forces us to take a look at the mirror and face our thoughts, emotions and needs. I believe that on the eve of big decision or event, solo travelling is highly recommended. I loved your video Sissel. It was lovely. I solo travelled only once but the introspection I did led me to make some really tough and important decisions. I would definitely want to do it again.

From my own experience, being comfortable traveling alone came from mainly two places. The first one, was traveling alone during my teens between cities twice a week because my parents are divorced. In the beginning, that meant feeling very lonely and feeling unable to latch on friendships or myself for a long time. When I decided to settle down in only one city, that began to change. Secondly, when I developed more of my self esteem, it made me able to trust my judgement, decision making and problem solving, specially when traveling or doing things alone in general☺️ you’ve got this! Practice makes perfection💗

I went to Gyeongju on my first (and only, so far, haha) trip to Korea last year and loved it so much more than I expected to. The city is beautiful and has so much history. I stayed in a hanok in a small village outside the city and my hosts were so lovely and kind and drove me around to see the sites at night. Also, the cheese coin was delicious (forget what it was called)! That was actually my first solo trip in many years, since I met my boyfriend, and I really enjoyed it. I love that with solo travel you can go at your own pace, that you can see and do exactly what you want to, and that you can take time to have slow moments - like sitting in a cafe reading and reflecting - that you wouldn't otherwise do when traveling. Like you said early in the video, there is definitely a strange feeling that when you're not with other people, you're not truly experiencing a place, since you have no one to share it with or talk with about your experiences. I tried to push myself to really be present during my trip and take everything in -- a good exercise in meditative practice!

I had the same thing!!! so scared of solo traveling, but then it turned out i was just scared of being on my own and had seperation anxiety from the people I love.I think home is not a place but people that are dear to you, so when you travel with them, even to a place you have never been to, it will always feel safe and well, like home. The trick is to be able to recognise that you are your souls home, thus everywhere you go you are safe inside your beutifull vessel and with the best friend you could ever ask for, your mind. I think you need to trust yourself more that you will be perfectly fine and you will handle whatever comes your way.I believe in you Sissel and trurly wish you all the love you well deserve 💚

I’ve watched your videos for a while and you have such a nice energy. Your life is beautiful as is your love with your husband, family will come to you how and when it’s time. Try not to stress, you are SO young. I have had three pregnancies but was only able to keep one and now I am a single mom raising my autistic daughter with my parents help at 39 wishing I had a husband. That is all to say, everyone wants something that they don’t already have, especially as a woman to want to be a mother biologically speaking is a natural thing. The craving to mother, I remember it well and I am grateful for my little girl despite all the pain that has come along through the process. Forgive me for speaking like a grandma, I am looking at your life from afar and thinking it is so beautiful and how lovely it would be for you to have the family you want. A lot of people out here are rooting for you. Thank you for sharing. Keep manifesting, it will come to you.

I always like the idea of solo travelling and would like to try it soon (when I start travelling often) The reason why I don't want to do it now is because I think travelling should be a "shared" thing. I like the idea of sharing the exact memories with family, with a friend or with a significant other. It makes the travel more memorable. But I hope, I also get to do solo travel soon.

I am absolutely terrified to travel alone. In my 29 years of my life, I have never been alone, I have always had someone near me or in a close enough capacity that I had no reason to be scared. I don't know how to be alone and that scares me too. I keep wondering when I will get over this fear but I'm not sure I ever will tbh which is frustrating because I do want to travel and I know it's almost always going to be by myself if I ever do. I suppose there is also the fear that I cannot protect myself. Which is silly because if this is the case, why don't I just enroll in classes to learn how to protect myself?? Again, it goes back to doing things alone. Anxiety is a weird and fickle fiend. Many congrats on Jake being healthy, so to speak. Even though I've recently subscribed, already being on this journey with you has been a good experience, and I truly truly hope the best for you both. ALSO, what is you MBTI?

I used to live 30 minutes by bus from Gyeongju, I really liked it there but I rarely ever went, lol. When you get back to Gyeongju, 2 places you need to go to are Anapji (sorry that's the old historical name for it that the locals still use, I think the current name is Wolji? I don't know, lol), Anapji NEEDS to be seen by night, but you get there early and wait a while in your chosen spot because the place can fill up. The other place is Bulguksa, one of the oldest temples in Korea (though it was burnt down and rebuilt because of the first and second Japanese invasion just like most things in Korea), but it's beautiful, not my ultimate favorite temple, that one still belongs to Tongdosa. Gyeongu in a way though is like Kyoto in that a lot of the tourist sites are spread out, which means it's not completely walkable, unless you only want to see the sites close to the city center, but there are buses that go to all the other sites. By the way, if you are gonna solo travel anywhere, I think Korea is the best place to do it, especially if you live there and have a Korean bank card and Korean phone plan, lol. I used to do it all the time, a few times to Jeju, my favorite place to solo travel, lol. And I'm a HUGE introvert and usually don't like going places alone.

Hi, Sissel! I cried how cute and meaningful all the little things, shops and cafes are ❤ I looove watching your collabs with travel organisation! Is the city stroller and baby friendly? Asking because I find it hard to go to a lot of places in Seoul without my husband ( who works a lot). I don''t own a car and many places don't have access and just have endless stairs😂, sometimes even cafes and shop entrances are just impossible mountains for me alone (I can't carry the weight of the stroller due to some health things). I'm always scared of transportation difficulties the most though. What's your opinion? Would you travel there with a baby (without Jake)? P.s: so glad you both are healthy! ❤

This is such a fascinating topic, I would've never guessed you were scared or travelling solo! Precisely because you seem quite confident and naturally friendly 😂 I am also used to people who are not confident about traveling solo because they have never really been anywhere but in their hometown/area or because they're scared of the language barrier. Again, you moved to the other side of the world and spoke Korean, so it came as a big surprise! It made me reflect on why I love solo traveling and I have always enjoyed it. It made sense to me as an introverted person, but then when I think about it, I guess some of the "skills" I have to use are not typically introverted traits? I am never scared of asking information, message strangers for a coffee, I am very precise and mindful about getting lost in a place where I don't speak the language (Korean countryside, I thinking about you lol) but I am also chill... if I get lost, I guess I'll deal with it 😂 So I actually don't have a clear picture, it's probably a very layered topic and each individual has a unique relationship with solo travel. Anyway, I absolutely loved this travel vlog! And I hope this positive experience made you vibe with solo traveling and realise you can absolutely do it if you want to! All the love to you and Jake ❤

I completely understand what you mean by traveling solo and being in the state of loneliness and scarcity, that is why as confident as I’m about myself I still want someone next to me to at least talk to. Although the best thing of solo traveling is do whatever you enjoy without having any other person objection. You definitely remind me so much of what I should be doing and enjoy the moment.

Such a wholesome video. I understand why you feel like it’s your best. It feels really true and warm ❤️. I haven’t solo traveled yet either. For me, I think it’s the feeling of wanting to share the memories and experiences with someone, that keeps me from doing it. Of course I can tell others about the time, but they will never understand the emotions of the time and place, if they weren’t there with me. But then again, seeing you in this video, maybe you wouldn’t have felt everything so strong when others were there with you. This video was really inspiring. Hey Sissel! First, if TAK has a dutch flag online... do you think they mistakenly took the wrong 'european country'-flag? haha because nothing in TAK looked dutch(I'm Dutch), al verrrry danish 😄 Second, to your question 'why is it scary to travel solo?' My personal analasys and theory🤓 is.. I believe we are not used to being alone/with ourselves anymore, in a conscious way. We get so many stimuli all the time and we are so drilled to live a productive life, that there is so little, if at all, space to just be, wonder and observe. To be open for new things, new connections with strangers.. If our nervoussystem only senses a lack of stimuli these days, it is thinking 'omg, this is different, danger! danger!' and we grab out phones to scroll on some social media platform to feel a sense of connection or just to get little hits of dopamine really.. So I say.. Travelling solo is a beautiful exercise to train that 'being in the moment'-muscle, to get to know yourself, and to let your nervoussystem get acquainted with rest, ease, beauty, and love again. :) So now this preacher has to become part of the choir, because I have major difficulties with this as well haha.. I'm thinking of travelling to Asia this year, South Korea an Japan probably.. but I wanted it last year and chickened out (no one there to convince me) So maybe this year I should! You already did it! well done Sissel!

my first experience traveling internationally was a disaster; to and from, my initial flights were delayed by hours and subsequentially missed my two connecting flights (air canda and Lufthansa and I will forever have beef). i could only get a flight to the capital of the country I was visiting, 5 hours away from my original destination, didn't know the language, and was brought to the wrong bus station, didn't have the proper adapter for my charger so my phone almost died so I couldn't communicate with those I was meeting up with. after that, traveling solo doesn't excite me as it does concern me, but I am also now 7 years older than I was during that experience and I know what I would have done differently. traveling within my country by myself is usually fairly easy, as long as your pick-up and drop off transportation are secured and reliable!

I have been travelling alone since I was 11yo, so it doesn’t bother me. I enjoy it, but I also like people with me. Depends on the people a little bit. In Korea I would be worried, cause I don’t speak Korean and I don’t like Bus travel. Trains are fine, but would rather use my own car.

This was such a beautiful video. ❤ I want to solo travel but I’m very hesitant to because traveling makes me anxious and I’m the person who hides behind travel companions and lets them plan things. 😅

Thank you so much for your honesty, you always make me remember my solo-travel to korea (and the fear beforehand) but like you i do wish for the next one to come - whenever that will be... Anyways, i wish you all the best for your hope to become reality soon and meanwhile a lot of good memories and happiness🌸

Love the video and all the places😍 is there a list of all shops recommended by Korea Tourism organization? I tried to find it on Visit Korea website but there were not any except for the one that had over 6000 shops 🫠

What a beautiful solo trip Sissel! The city looks absolutely breathtaking and serene ✨️ proud of you for stepping out of your comfort zone and doing this alone 👏I've never solo traveled and I feel too nervous to do that both because I'm scared of getting lost which is silly since we have internet and I feel a bit uncomfortable as a woman, just walking alone all the time. I know I shouldn't think like that and let fear stop me. Maybe one day I'll manage to book a solo trip too 🦋

well , I would say that it is not aberrant to feel scared of solo traveling. There are indeed so many dangers that one can potentially encounter when moving to new discoveries . But the knowledge that you can think on your feet and are in the moment could allow you to enjoy the experience.

I’m ok for the most part traveling alone I the US but I’m afraid to travel overseas by myself. My anxiety kicks in sometimes when I am doing new things. I can get overwhelmed and just want to sit down and cry. When I am traveling with my kids then I’m totally in mom mode and not afraid because I have someone to take care of. I am confident in my ability to keep them safe or at least to make them feel safe by being with me. I really want to travel to Korea but I don’t want to go alone. I don’t really have anyone my age to travel with. My last three trips have been for BTS concerts. LA, LV and Chicago. At least when I am alone for the concerts I am surrounded by Army for part of the trip. I have been able to meet up with people for all three of them.

I love traveling solo BUT as I've gotten older, I realize that eating meals alone just sucks :( I'm fine spending the day out and about, but it's sad to not share a food experience. Your dinner in the hotel alone was so relatable haha
