Winter in full. Weekend camping in the land of peace and relaxation. This time I chose Gorce mountains as my destination. Rich in larches, junipers, spruces and beech. All majestic climate was complemented by birds singing and changeable, winter weather.
When I moved away from the trail, the amount of knee-deep snow significantly reduced the walking speed. Arriving at the place I was greeted by untouched and untouched snow fields. The place near a larch grove proved to be ideal for camp.
I started digging a snow platform to set up a tarp. The amount of snow did not allow to build a snow pit or a snow trench. Once the tarp was set up, I buried it with snow to protect it from the increasing wind and the coming blizzard.
The weather was changing like a kaleidoscope.
I set out in search of firewood. The forest turned out to be rich in dry beech and smaller larch branches perfect for kindling. I quickly managed to gather the fuel.
I lit the fire with the help of a flint and kindling made of resinous wood.
This time I decided to prepare an oriental dish straight from the fire. Specifically, a tortilla with fried seasoned beef of the highest quality, red onions and peppers. The whole dish was complemented with Asian soy sauce.
It was time for sleep. The temperature at night, according to forecasts, dropped to about -12 degrees C which, combined with a down sleeping bag, ensured a very comfortable sleep.
The snowstorm stopped during the night. In the morning I was greeted by sunny weather, which boosted morale and increased the enthusiasm for further work. Breakfast was a quick coffee, Indian tea and tortilla again, this time cold. The surrounding views were breathtaking. Winter weather showed its most beautiful face.
I consider the camp a success. Happy camping!
