@Kit Parsons I want to clarify that I don't mean it's a criticism of progressive politics, but a criticism of mainstream liberal politics: The kind that's super milquetoast and uninspiring: A politician talking about being "sane", "sensible" and "reasonable". Candidates like that may actually have some good ideas, but it's not enough to get a lot of people to volunteer for their campaigns. Maybe that's not what the writers were thinking, but it's what I read into it anyway.

I will say that if you meet Gore and talk to him in person he's much better. He never did well on camera but in real life you can see how he managed to convince voters when dealing with them one on one.

If you look closely you'll notice it's actually long-arm Lisa not Marge - you can also see at 0:07 that she's holding the book way closer to the 'camera' than should be possible with the length of her arms (not even just a perspective thing). So, with her stretchy limbs, high intelligence and activism against percived injustices, is Lisa Simpson a young, gender-swapped Mr Fantastic?

The book colours in this clip are all over the place! The Al Gore book that gets scanned isn't the Al Gore book Lisa was holding and Bart's book on UFOs never made it into the pile as he handed Lisa some other book. Therefore the book that triggers the alert can't be the UFO book, ruining the joke if you spot the colour changes. The Al Gore book changes colour twice in 24 seconds! So someone who owns a stake in the fossil fuel industry and therefore makes money off letting it run wild. Someone who skims a scientific paper, doesn't check if it's disputed, and makes sensationalist pieces off it. Someone who has done more harm to the credibility of climate change than Donald Trump. Someone's who's ilk is responsible for the widespread article about a future ice age, when that has never been the concensus of the scientific community, it was one article, a heavily disputed one. Al Gore's a grifter.
