Even bands like night ranger were not getting mass radio play at the peak of their success around 1984..m all these male bands needed to adopt a glamorous image the way it worked for loverboy or even the grotesque George Michael you had to have a glamorous image in the 1980s not this working class image of a guy looking for younger girls that just did not resonate with most of the American population.

@Sandabern

He said it himself numerous times and one of his best, underrated and "not so popular" songs (last verse of "Midwest Midnight") summarizes it well. He was too stubborn to give control to the record companies and no big labels would sign him. He wanted to keep full control, but the record companies felt he and the band had not "paid their dues". It's a shame and I truly admired him for his believe in himself, but it cost him millions of dollars and national fame. But, he was his own man and mostly in control of his destiny. You have to respect that even more than his song writing and singing. I'm biased because I grew up on MSB being from Cleveland, but they were so underrated on a national level because he wouldn't "sell out".

@@Sandabern I never knew this band was around since around 1970 I first heard of them around 1981 and I felt naming a band after one individual was outdated in 1981 and by 1983 this working class image they projected was a relic of the past something you wanted to escape because it was a dying industry and culture... they needed a glamorous image like loverboy or even the grotesque George Michael to get promoted on a wide scale basis

Kevin Reighly voice is iconic along with the johnah kosohin lead vocals on the early hits and lyrics drove Michael Stanley's band into midstream northeast culture in the early 1980s.
