Thanks for the video Bryan, very helpful content. Comparing the 10 to the 8 you don't actually gain any usable screen real estate because the back/home/clear buttons just take up the extra screen space. Would have preferred sticking with the physical buttons as it is easier to use in the rugged environment but I can see they are going more mainstream with every new model..

Hi, thanks for offering your video indo on the XP10. This past Sunday Dec. 4, my 2 year old XP8 fell off my desk and the screen popped out breaking the ribbon wire connector. I called 3 local cell repair shops in Ottawa and none stated that they could repair it. I went on Telus where I obtained my XP8 and discovered they no longer offered the XP8 model. On Monday Dec. 5, I returned to the Telus website and discovered that they are now offering the XP10. I ordered one and is now in transit to me. So I started looking for more info and potential accessories. I found your videos, watched and subscribed. Again thank you for your service. I appreciate your offerings.

@@kenbirkin7753 Hi Ken, I have had the XP10 for five (5) days now. It processes faster and downloads faster than the XP8. The second wide angle camera is very useful to me. I don't like the flashlight gesture, chop chop to turn on/off the light. I would have preferred the option of assigning the flashlight to a programmable button. Now waiting for accessories to become available for this device. Cheers

@@Bryanthecellphoneguy In Australia, a company called Strike offers affordable 'non-genuine, after-market accessories'. I'm glad too, as Sonim expected $100 for the head phone jack fixture! Car cradle was $400! Strikes accessories appear to be very good quality. Speaking of saving money, I found a mint unsed Sonim XP10 for 50% off retail with all accessories. Questions: does the touch screen have good sensitivity? Is sensitivity adjustable? Do apps run fast/ smoothly? I returned an XP8 because it was "kludgy"...a bit slow, but biggest issue was it was much harder to type on than my aging Samsung S8 Active, due to inconsistent touch sensitivity. And the camera was quite poor. If this XP10 can keep up with an old S8 Active, then I want one. But the XP8 was too much of a step backwards. But I've been wanting another Sonim phone since I had the XP3 bar phone years ago.

I've been using an XP10 for about 3 weeks now, been thru a couple of firmware updates, but this device is simply amazing. Many great new features. The camera drivers/software is much better than the xp8 drivers, yet you need to remember this is rugged device not an iphone when using the cam. You do gain extra screen space if the applicable is properly developed to support the new soft keys. **disclaimer sonim tester for over 5 years.

@Eric Geiler How does this phone compare to the Samsung xcover 6 pro in terms of processor and camera? I know you would just be comparing data sheets. I have the xp8 and used the Samsung xcover field pro. I am not a fan of all the extra stuff that Samsung does for android. I want the best all-around device to last until the next version comes out. My biggest gripe right now is that the processing of the xp8 is very slow and bogged down due to the lack of ram, and the camera isn't even close to adequate. I am not buying the phone for the camera. I am buying it for its durability. But taking better-than-average pictures would make a world of difference. Thank you!

How securely does the back cover stay? Because my current phone also only has screws on the bottom and unfortunately after dropping it a few times the top part doesn't stay all the way down/sealed. I feel this issue could easily have been avoided if the top part had 2 screws too. Please let me know as I'm looking at buying it, but don't want to spend my money on it if it has the same issue.

What are your thoughts about the camera? Many new phones have 3 lenses. The Pixel 7 Pro takes amazing photos and has reasonable durability. Your thoughts?
@Bryanthecellphoneguy
Жыл бұрын
The camera is adequate but not spectacular. You don't buy this phone for the camera. You buy it for rugged durability and the awesome warranty. It is light years ahead of the Pixel in those areas. There is no real way to compare the two phones as they are rarely competing against each other in the same demographic. It would be like comparing an GMC Sierra HD to a Cadillac. It depends what is important to you. Google's primary marketing feature is the camera and it is amazing. Sonim stands alone when it comes to ruggedness.

@@Bryanthecellphoneguy thank you for the reply. My XP-8 is tired, but has been amazing through numerous deployments for NDMS, and as a paramedic it goes flying at least once a shift. The camera is nice, but as you said, not important for ruggedness.

You can remove the three bottom buttons in settings and you don't accidentally hit the middle button when doing finger print, and you can reassign the external buttons how you like. I did see somewhere that these were coming with the 480 CPU not the sm4350 pro, a much better CPU, sad.

The XP8 has USB 3.1 with displayport alt-mode which means that if you connect it with a USB-C to HDMI cable it will mirror the screen on the TV or monitor. Does the XP10 have that feature? That's a "hidden" feature of the XP8 that I've never seen anyone mention in reviews.
