In recent years, everyone who've does IRL streams with a backpack of some description has probably had owned one or more of those excellent Sony ActionCams. Compared to the competition, this particular camera has it all! Great image quality with in-body optical image stabilization (SteadyShot), actual high quality stereo sound plus the option to function without an internal battery (preventing overheating) and more importantly, an onboard HDMI video out and USB power without some costly add-ons - Looking at you GoPro!!
Unfortunately everyone is more than aware that those things aren't indestructible despite them being designed for action sports. Glass being glass, can smash, the ports can break due to excess wear n tear or in rare cares, water ingress shorts everything out. Then you have to send them away for repairs.. This is where Sony gets you, costs aren't cheap, out of warranty repairs can cost in excess of $100~200.
I decided to stream the process of disassembling the popular Sony Action Cam for the benefit of others who're interesting in repairing their own (you'll have to source your own parts). This video will cover both the HDR-AS300 & FDR-X3000, as they both share the same housing and component assembly. The X3000 has a white mid-frame & AS300 has a black mid-frame. However some of the components are different, the housing isn't interchangeable with each models.
Originally aired on Twitch. Created for a friend who damaged their camera. I decided to share this video on KZitem, incase others find the content useful.
